Dear Mr. Petras,

I saw your post on a website giving advice to those who have been fired from a former position, and placing it on a resume to avoid disqualification as a candidate. I was very impressed with your feedback, and wanted to share my dilemma.

I didn't include a job that I was terminated from on my resume. Not that I was trying to hide it, but because it had very little do with the position I had applied for. I was made a tentative offer pending results of background checks and substance screening.

I received the application via e-mail this evening and found that it asks if you have been terminated from a position within the last five years. I don't intend to lie, but what do you anticipate at this point.

Executive Recruiter - Career Advisor
Introduction
Hello Friends (and friends I haven't met yet)!
Here is a little about myself. I'm a veteran executive recruiter of 19 years and own a small recruiting practice - Lodestar Executive Search. I specialize in placing managers, directors, and executives in the following industries: agricultural equipment, construction equipment, and manufacturers of complex engineered products. I recruit nationwide and have solid relationships with some of the most respected leaders within these industries.

I also enjoy helping job seekers and career changers. I created the popular website, Job-Interview-Wisdom. My website has been coined: A soft place to land for job seekers and career changers. I try to inject some humor and common sense into the stressful task of making a job change.

I am a published author and in 2011 wrote the book, Why Don't They Call Me? ~ Job Search Wisdom to Get You Unstuck. I was inspired to write the book because of my hands on experience with placing hundreds of professionals, and my own unemployment ordeal that lasted over 6 months in 1995.

Prior to recruiting and writing, I spent 20 wonderful years in the Recreational Vehicle Industry as a regional sales director and national sales manager for Fleetwood Enterprises and Damon Corporation. Both of these companies manufacture motor homes. This was an exciting time in my career because my family was young and we were able to go on numerous motor home adventures together. We still talk about them today.
