I was out walking my cat Noli today, with her leash and harness. Noli still managed to pin a bird. Seriously, she caught and pinned it, and I was sure she was about to eat the thing. At the last second, she tripped on the leash and the bird bolted away.
Still, it was like watching a cheetah tackle an antelope, or whatever it is that cheetahs eat. I'm so proud.

I look forward to the day that we're installing tech like this in humans.
The tiny skinlike device attaches directly to damaged spinal cords and stimulates them as if they were connected to the brain.

That's pretty much the case. That's also, basically, my high school.
We'll be avoiding Internet parties in the future.

Algebraic geometry  -

Question for the group. I'm working on a computer program right now, which constructs each of the Platonic solids. I have it quite nearly finished, but am running into a bump on the dodecahedron (possibly because of cognitive fatigue…).

Within the dodecahedron are four inner pentagons, each parallel to the others. The outer two, the smallest, form the caps of the shape. I have a closed dodecahedron, but it isn't regular yet—I really need to figure out what angle they're at on the enclosing sphere.

I'm working, initially, in spherical coordinates. I thought that angle might be (1 + φ) × the angle between the two inner pentagons, but I keep getting a weird shape when I use that. (I'm looking through my vertex indexing right now to see if the problem is hidden there).

Does anyone know the answer to this?

I am not generally a Windows user, save for a few games I play. However, I remember the trauma of frequent BSODs quite well. This contains a set of handy solutions.
The blue screen of death — or BSOD — is always an unwelcome sight. BSODs appear when Microsoft Windows encounters a critical error it can’t recover from, requiring a reboot and possibly resulting in lost work.

Time to let go, guys. The terrorist threat, to the average American, is (and always has been) vanishingly small.

White House: NSA Phone Records Terminated if Deadline Slips

Section 215 of the #patriotact  - the one that authorizes the +National Security Administration to collect phone #metadata  such as who calls whom and at which times - is set to expire on June 1, 2015 unless #congress  acts.

And today, the +The White House confirmed that the program will end in full if Congress is unable to reauthorize it.

This article on +The Hill has more:

While top-ranking officials at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence had previously said that there would be no backup plan in the event of congressional inaction, the new statement - which was first obtained by +Reuters - is the first time the White House has made clear that the program will wholly end if lawmakers fail to move forward.

The statement also clarifies that the administration will not seek to pursue a legal loophole to continue the phone records collection.

With just over two months to go until said deadline, the article notes that #lawmakers  have yet to begin serious discussions about the issue.

The new statement makes clear that the pressure is on Congress.

If they do this, I swear to God, I will never use another Microsoft product again. You leave my multiboot system alone, you are the least important OS.

Linux News Here
Well it's on again. Operating System Lockout on Windows 10.

In my opinion OS lockout has always been the primary goal of m$.

At its WinHEC hardware conference in Shenzhen, China, #Microsoft talked about the hardware requirements for Windows 10. The precise final specs are not available yet, so all this is somewhat subject to change, but right now, Microsoft says that the switch to allow Secure Boot to be turned off is now optional. Hardware can be Designed for #Windows 10 and can offer no way to opt out of the Secure Boot lock down. #Linux
Windows 10 hardware must support Secure Boot and won't have to let you turn it off.
