I would love to get some dialogue on this from proponents who actually read it. Feel free to share to get a larger mature engagement.

I think this does much more harm than good. I am happy they are allowing local municipalities to have their own ISPs.

Dear Net Neutrality Proponents, You dear, sweet buffoons. I know you're quite impressed that the Federal Communications Commission just passed a sweeping set of regulations granting themselves control over the Internet. President Barack Obama considers this a glorious victory. Liberals and Democrats across the land are delighted. Even some corners of...

A very good look at the negative points of the FCC ruling.

The FCC passing this 322 pages of Net Neutrality regulation (which no one outside of the commission or those who have written it has seen, yet) is stupidly, stupidly short-sighted on the part of NNR's proponents.

The internet was, up until now, completely unrestricted. There has been absolutely zero, nil, nada - legally enforcable laws, regulations, powers nor authority by the FCC nor anyone to regulate the internet. The fact that Verizon won that court case against the FCC only proves that to have been necessarily the case.

"The internet is the first experiment in anarchy we've ever had." - Eric Schmidt, Co-Founder of Google, Inc

So the internet we know and love, how it's always been, and how it's been growing in bandwidth speed (about 1500% since a decade or so ago, but up to 30,000% faster depending on how much you want to spend), dropping in prices (especially when adjusted for inflation) despite the relatively massive increases in speed, almost ubiquitous availability (86% of households have access to at least two broadband providers), and all this despite taking place in one of the largest populations and geographical areas on earth... is now being imposed upon by restrictions on the agents significantly involved in its growth.

No less, now we've got the fucking FCC (another tentacle of the Federal Government, who has been violating privacy and civil liberties with the likes of the NSA, PRISM, etc ) - so well-known for its love of civil liberties and free speech with its extreme sensitivity to nipple-slips and horrible, evil swear-words on TV and the radio, etc, being the ones to impose these restrictions. They now have a nasty foot in the door to finally controlling the internet. And once regulations pass, they virtually never go away. They just grow. Always.

With arbitrary powers, no less! 'Forbearance'... Right. Where have we heard that one before? This is the obviously aptly named 'Patriot Act' of the internet.

I've argued, debated, discussed this enough. It doesn't matter anymore. All that's left is to hope the ISPs have a solid case against this and sue the hell out of the FCC and prevail.

Otherwise, everything you all get, all of the nasty unintended consequences, both seen and unseen, that will result from this... you will have deserved it all.

Congratulations to all of you (you know who you are) on being the 'useful idiots' for heralding the end of the internet as we know it. You've bought the giant marketing campaign (propagated by content providers, poisoned ideologues and the federal government) of 'Net Neutrality' (regulation) hook, line, and sinker.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and support through our struggle this week.

Although the temperature approached Florida Fatal (32F), an act of God stopped it at 33, and thus we survived. I'm still recovering, but we're on the path to our normal winter temperature of 76.

Rule of 5?

2014 smartphone sales:

1 Blackberry phone sold for every 5 Windows phones.
1 Windows phone sold for every 5 iOS phones.
1 iOS phone sold for every 5 Android phone.

Android FTW!

It's actually pretty cool that I played a central role on the Android platform side.

What's even better on the coolness scale is that as an application developer I can now write an app once and have it compatible with about a billion and a half devices, which is probably an unprecedented scale.

It's a good time to be in the mobile industry.
IDC's latest numbers on smartphone market share make it clear - the smartphone OS wars are pretty much over, and only two champions are left. In the green corner is Android, in the blue corner is iOS, and between them they accounted for 96.3% of smartphones shipped in 2014.

This is hilarious. Obama Administration now using the Bush administration as defense for their comments. Too good.

Fair and balanced as usual.

Bias? What bias?
CNN rolls out a poll asking the public who will be to blame for a DHS shutdown. The choices were:
Republicans or Obama

Seriously. Senate Democrats, the group ACTUALLY filibustering and preventing even the option for debate and amendments - not even a choice.

Wow. Not even a choice.

And the results, that more people will blame Congressional Republicans (a nameless group of evil politicians) over Obama (a named person who seems basically less capable than Mad King George). Not a surprise. That's human nature. But those results were touted EVERYWHERE.

They were touted in Conservative Blogs, with a fatalistic headline and tone - giving our side an excuse to give up the fight, assume defeat, hang our heads and go home.

Yesterday's article at HotAir had the headline
GOP is losing the messaging war over DHS funding
Just...done deal, we're losing, give it up, the politicians will give in, it's over.

We talked about it during the podcast. We were, it seems, a bit too kind.
A new CNN poll on a potential Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shutdown failed to ask whether Senate Democrats should take the blame, even though they are filibustering the DHS spending bill.
