In twenty years I'll look back on these years
Knowing right now I'll have joyful tears
This is when I switched all the gears
Found inner strength and drowned all the fears
Made many choices that defied many peers
Yelled intent loudly for all to hear
Stood proud, tall, and I made my mark
No longer would I live my life in the dark
Right now I am well and I'm doing fine
The kind hand that now feeds me is mine
Transcending this life does not cost a dime
It has been there within me the whole damn time
It is also true I'm not one of a kind
You can climb mountains in your own time
Close your eyes... quiet the mind...
And you will see the evil one die
Being here, right now, that is the key
You can walk on water, even cross a great sea
Be still, be calm, don't worry, it's fine
Help is around you all of the time

"Don't like pay, go to school"
That would be nice if school didn't saddle you with a lifetime of debt. I am a victim of that. I have over $40,000 in student loans from being duped by the Private University System. Education is also lackluster. It doesn't provide anything of real value. The Education System is nearly broken. Points #4 and #5 is crucial. And #5 is increasing pay.

"Get a business"
Yes this is America, land of opportunity. Not everyone has the capacity to run a business. Congrats to everyone that does start one and makes it through the 95% failure rate. I started about 4 businesses in my life and this is the first that made it to hiring. Should others be left to poverty and starvation because they were meant for labor or service?
"Went to school for a trade, make the same as burger flipper! NO!"
Other wages will equalize in the economy. There is a ripple effect observed when minimum wage increases. Other wages go up. Supply and Demand in the work force works similarly to consumer products.
The minimum wage debate currently underway tends to narrowly focus on those workers making exactly the minimum wage. This approach misses a large number of low-wage workers whose wages would likely be raised through a ripple effect resulting from an increase in the minimum wage.
As our economy continues to recover, a minimum wage increase could provide a much-needed boost to the earnings of low-wage workers. A significant 35 million workers from across the country could see their wages rise if the minimum wage were increased, allowing them to earn a better livelihood and lead more economically secure lives.
Again, not everyone can do a trade. Should they be left in poverty and starvation because of it?
"No it's giving people who don't deserve the extra money to not apply themselves."
The minimum wage would be over $10.52/hour right now IF it kept up with inflation. If it kept up with productivity, $21.72. The minimum wage is ROBBING you and everyone else of a proper wage. Someone stated it above, You are fighting against your own benefit.

Real World Examples:
At Costco, hourly workers make an average of more than $20 an hour — well above the national average of $11.39 for a retail sales worker — according to a 2013 Businessweek story. For employees who put in 40 hours per week, that works out to about $43,000 a year.
NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Costco Wholesale (COST - Get Report) continues to win the warehouse club war it's fighting against Wal-Mart's (WMT - Get Report) Sam's Club division.
The Container Store:
Wages on Glassdoor: http://goo.gl/QCLzqx
Most of the wages are at least DOUBLE the current min wage.
Growing sales have them in position to clear $1B this year.
The companies have figured out that less executive pay and more pay for the workers equals growing sales. They ended their greed.

If you think they don't deserve more, work there. Bust your ass at Taco Bell at 2AM when the drunks roll through and know that every hour you spend there, you get to take home $5.43 after taxes. That means you can finally afford rent after 100 hours.
I'm in Milwaukee County, here is the MIT Living Wage Report for me.
Poverty Wage is $5.00/hr for a single person. After taxes, you are barely cutting it. A single mother needs $22.75/hr to live AT poverty. You look her in the eye and tell her she deserves the $7.25/hr and nothing more. People at McD's et al bust their ass, and at least as hard as waitresses.
Right now, about 40% of single filers in the US reported an income of less than $15,000/year. Only 14% of those were in high school. That is ridiculous. Of the remaining 86% earning poverty wages, they are adults that graduated from high school or better.
I seriously believe you are ignorant to pay inequality and the wealth gap that exists in this Country.
" Started in construction over 20 years ago making 6 bucks an hour fuck em and they 15"
The inflation from 20 years ago is higher than the min wage right now.
20 years ago, I was in working for $4.25/hr. By your logic, I should say 'fuck em' as well. That's just selfish.
Unions are failing and being dismantled. Legislation across the country is wiping them out.
Right to Work is killing them: http://goo.gl/N4wcCx
24.2%: private sector union membership rate, 1973
6.6%: private sector union membership rate, 2014
With only 6.6% of the country in a union, we would need a massive uprising to take care of it. Massive strikes and walk-offs would occur. Things would shut down. Possible anarchy. Legislating in wage laws is faster, easier, and more efficient. It also affects ALL People, not just those lucky enough to get a union.
The thing I don't get about this argument: You are basically saying they can have the pay raise, but not if it's a law. ONLY if a union is organized. I worked for places that threatened to re-open under a new name after laying us all off if we thought about organizing. I'm sure they were not the only ones to do that.
Chief Executive pay as a multiple of the typical worker’s pay rocketed from an average of 20 times in 1965 to 295.9 in 2013.
The minimum wage went to $1.00 an hour effective February 1967. By that ratio the CEO saw, minimum wage should be $295/hr.
The greed at the top has to stop. Companies saying they can't afford it are greedy. Period. The Container Store and Costco pay high wages because the people at the top felt they get enough.
I see littered in this thread a hatred for the profiteering elite, yet you want to allow them to continue to rape us. Irrationality defined.
Pittsburgh Restaurant Bans Tips, Will Pay Servers A Livable Salary Instead
Restaurant co-owner Bobby Fry told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review he and the eatery's partners decided to enact the change after they researched how to implement healthcare for their employees.
"The light bulb went off,” Fry told the paper. “If we were going to offer health care, why not offer a complete employment contract and do away with gratuity altogether?”
With some reconfiguring of how the restaurant operates -- including an expansion of their higher-end eating area -- Bar Marco won't have to increase menu prices to accommodate the change, either.
NO PRICE INCREASES!
"Prices will go up"
If people make more money, they will spend more money. This increases the demand. This will cause a need for more workers. Our economy is shrinking because the Middle Class lacks spending power. They make the economy run.
If wages made prices go up, why did they go up without wages going up? Wages don't affect price. The profits taken and the salaries on the top affect price. Wages can go up for the average worker without price increases if the owners and management don't take excessive salaries. Again, back to executive pay. How is that pay justified, but a living wage for workers is not?
"How much do I pay my employees"
My sales people will earn roughly 1/3 of the Profit Margin PER Bottle they Sell. If they put in the 25 hours or so a week I demand, they could make $1800/month easy. $18/hour roughly. However, there is no cap. They could earn the sky for all I care. If they build their accounts, they could earn $5000/month making an hour or 2 of calls per day. $100/hr.
As for the retail store, they start at a salary that is roughly $10/hr. I'm already paying more than the current minimum wage. The monthly bonuses could be $200-$500 depending on the store's performance. With bonuses, the 25 hour/week clerks could make $15/hr+.
I'm already ahead of the curve. I also plan to provide fully paid Health Insurance, 401(k), and stock options when I go public. I've discussed this with them on multiple occasions, I'm not just saying it for the sake of this argument.
I've been told by HR reps that my comp plans are unheard of in the work they do. They pointed out how greedy other people are and lauded me for giving back to my people. Without them, I have nothing. I must reward them properly if I want to survive.
Denying a raise in Minimum Wage can really only mean 1 of 3 things.
1) You are upset because you worked for a lower wage. Why should that matter? That is pure selfishness.
2) You are a greedy CEO. In that case, fuck off. You need to share with the people that prop your ass up there.
3) You are ignorant to the economy, price index, inflation, pay gap and inequality, and possibly business in general. Research.

Ruthless pragmatists about ideas, and insatiably curious, Architects are driven to find the most efficient means to their ends, and they will learn in any manner and degree they can. They will listen to amateurs if their ideas are useful, and will ignore the experts if theirs are not. Authority derived from office, credential, or celebrity does not impress them. Architects are interested only in what make sense, and thus only statements that are consistent and coherent carry any weight with them.
I'm not interested in winning approval or compliments, which sometimes causes me to appear non-conforming, shocking or tactless. Since I am not concerned as to what other people think of me, I often don't bother forming opinions about other people's behavior; a 'live and let live' attitude. Along these lines, I try not to be involved in gossip, or ever be petty.
I am a rebel at heart, and may even be known to do things just to shock people. Intellectual, radical and exciting, I may view others as slightly predictable and stuffy, while appreciating those who are slightly unique.
It's possible I may come across as detached and distant. If this is the case, it's not because I'm indifferent to others, I am just more concerned with humanity as a whole, rather than any one individual.
Where is the peace in more is better?
True nobility is not being better than anybody else,
it is about being better than you used to be.
If you change the way you look at things,
the things you look at change.
If you always look to the past for advice,
you will never see the future.
You don't stop laughing because you grow old,
you grow old because you stop laughing.
The only reason some people get lost in thought
is because it's unfamiliar territory.
A wise man knows he has limits.
A great man knows he has none.
Either blindly agree or disagree,
both ways save you from thinking.
Believe that you can or believe that you can't,
either way you are right.
