Home LAN.

A week ago we got Google Fiber. With our previous provider, we used an ASUS RT-AC68W as our router and WiFi. Today, the ASUS is in WAP mode since the Google Network Box (GNB) is the home router. The only functionality I lost on the AC68W was the free DDNS provided by ASUS. So, when my WAN IP address changes, I will have to reconnect the AiCloud app on my android phone to the AC68W.

I got the AiCloud app to work by reserving an internal IP address for the AC68W and establishing port forwarding. The GNB is not managed directly, like the AC68W, but by visiting fiber.google.com and signing in with the Google account our service is associated with. Any changes, such as setting up the port forwarding are pushed down to the GNB from Google's servers.

The AC68W sits in my office for better WiFi coverage than if it were in my basement. It is connected to one of the four ports on the GNB. The other devices that use the ports on the GNB are my D-Link Gigabit 8 port switch (DGS-1008G) and the Ooma Telo -- we decided to keep a dedicated house phone number.

The two computers in my office and the notebook computer in my bedroom are connected to the switch. We are able to be hard wired because we pulled Cat 5e cable through the house, while it was under construction back in 1999, after it was framed and before the sheetrock was put up. You can see a slideshow of our house being built on our website - www.mcgarryplace.com

Here is a photo of the LAN in my basement.

My Father-in-Law says "If it's free, it costs too much" and Windows 10 proves his point with 'Telemetry' (aka spyware)

It can climb a wall. However, I think that Spiderman uses a different technique.
