Today was a great first experience for me of photographing the cherry blossoms at the University of Washington.

Exploring Mt Rainier this last summer was such a great experience. The wildflowers on and around the mountain are so beautiful!  I took this photo on the hike up the Skyline Trail to Panorama Point just as the sun was setting.  I can't wait to go back there again this summer!

I have yet to climb Mount Si in Washington but I have looked at it from atop Rattlesnake Ledge many times. On this particular hike up Rattlesnake Ledge the clouds were especially dramatic. As they blocked the sun they created different shapes of light that moved quickly across the landscape. I took this shot as one of those shapes of light moved across the face of Mount Si.

There are sheep everywhere in New Zealand! Driving through the countryside on the North Island we passed so many fields like this one with an abundance of sheep. We were also blessed with lots of rainbows during our journey much like the one on the left in this image.

This sunrise shot was taken at Ecola State Park in Oregon. This park is a great location for getting shots of the beautiful Oregon coastline and its many sea-stacks. I mostly went to this location to get photos of Cannon Beach which lies just south of Ecola State Park. After getting those photos, I hiked up the hill a little bit to get a view looking north. I wanted to get a shot with Tillamook Rock Lighthouse in it. This small lighthouse sits way off the coast of Oregon and can be seen in the upper left of this photo.

Man Among Giants
Near the start of the hike up Rattlesnake Ledge in Washington there is a path off the trail to the right. This path is lined with all these tall trees that make you feel quite small as you stand among them. I decided to walk down this path and take a picture of myself  standing among the trees. I think having a person in the image definitely helps to give a sense of scale to the forest. I even had to take three vertical shots and stitch them together to try to capture the whole scene.

It was a beautiful day out and I didn't have anything on the schedule on this particular day so I decided to take a spontaneous hike up Rattlesnake Ledge. This popular hike just east of Seattle, Washington offers stunning views of the surrounding area. Since it wasn't a very busy day for this hike, which is rare, I decided to attempt a really wide shot and self portrait. This image is the result of 5 vertical 3 shot images stitched together. I did have to wait around for over an hour to get it without people running around, but I didn't mind the wait with a view like this.

Looks very similar to this recent post: https://plus.google.com/u/0/112382194357715824358/posts/gENvvscDqLj by Marc Lafontan
Funny I don't remember Marc shooting over my shoulder to get the exact same shot I did. Oh wait, thats right, he wasn't there.
Thanks to +Karl Louis for alerting me of the uncredited photo.
Throwback to this past summer's hike up Evergreen Mountain Lookout in Washington. This short hike puts you up above the clouds at around 5500 feet. The sunset the night we hiked up there was one of the most colorful displays of light I have ever seen. The amazing sunset combined with the low clouds made for this unique image of Evergreen Mountain Lookout.

Elowah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge of Oregon is one of my favorite waterfalls to photograph. The stream leading up to the mighty falls provides lots of possible compositions and if you venture up the stream toward the falls you can climb on some larger boulders to get this full view of the falls. The mist coming off the falls is so strong even this far away. Keeping your lens clean is a constant battle while photographing the falls. A cleaning cloth and taking your shots quickly are a must.

After the unusual snowfall that we had here in Lynnwood, Washington, I went for a walk in nearby Lynndale Park. Walking on the fresh snow in the forest was such a refreshing experience. I only saw a few other people during the hour or so that I hiked on the trails, many of which hadn't been walked on since the snowfall. I of course had my camera and tripod with me and took this panorama of the winter wonderland that appeared overnight. I liked this spot with the fork in the trail but needed to stitch together 5 vertical pictures in order to create a wide enough image to capture the scene.
