When I came across this amazing soundtrack (Rain over the ocean - cramp piano mix) from Anton Firtich, I immediately fell in love with its fragility and beauty.
I immediately imagined my footage of the manta rays shot at night to visualize the soul of the soundtrack.
I am very grateful Anton allowed me to create this dream and use it to raise awareness of the underwater world.

"Late night, after all the operators left the site at the Sheraton in Kona, bringing their customers to the world famous "Kona Manta night dive" site, we went in the water with those magical creatures on our own.
We attracted plankton, the favorite diet of the reef manta (Manta alfredi), towards our boat, the Kona Aggressor II.
The plankton, which is attracted towards (moon)light, on its turn attracts the mantas.
This spectacle gave us opportunity to have magical moments with these graceful giants.
I shot this in 4K, ambient, to preserve the natural beauty of this underwater ballet."

I couldn't have said it better myself: visiting dolphinaria = contributing to the annual Taiji mass dolphin slaughter!

I shot this film on Cat Island, the Bahamas in May 2013 in 5K on the Epic.
We had bad weather with waves from 9 to 10 feet so very tough conditions to film and we were only able to get in the water half of the usual time.
Nevertheless the encounters were magical and on my last snorkel I even had a blue marlin paying me a visit. Boy, was that an amazing treat!
All encounters were on snorkel, no scuba used.
The great crew of Epic Diving with the experienced captain Reynolds made this experience for our group and the Shark Angels unforgettable!
The banding is due to compression for Vimeo.

24th of December on our way back to the dock on Nauti-Cat, we met X-Mas Manta.
She is a small Manta Ray which visits Cayman every year around Christmas.
Manta Rays are extremely rare spotted in Cayman.
What a wonderful moment to encounter this wonderful creature.
This is a quick and rough edit with hardly any grading done.
Shot on an Epic in 5K Wide Screen and... err... an iPhone :-)
Merry Christmas to you all!
