Just wanted to share this rather solid piece on the seismic & likely volcanic activity that's picking up in Iceland. We might be in for a fairly interesting show from the land of fire & ice.

Took a return trip to Ramona Falls in the Mount Hood National Forest. Beautiful hike, as always. Just thought I'd share a photo.

The ice in the Columbia River Gorge made the waterfalls exceptionally pretty this weekend.

Practicing my animated gif skillz with a video of the #RussianMeteor.
(Not very good at it yet. Hard to balance quality with file size.)

Nah, but it's got to stay under 1 mb to be uploaded to Tumblr, I think.

This piece done by Oregon Field Guide is an excellent, brief summary of some of the volcanic hazards and history of Mount Hood. It also features geologist Willie Scott, which whom I had the pleasure of hiking into the crater of Mount St. Helens a few summers ago.
It's well worth 8 minutes of your time, and details some of the issues I wrote about in this post back in 2011: http://cascadiablog.com/2011/09/24/im-not-just-going-to-show-you-all-my-faults/

I've been fighting off spam posts in this community left & right. To counteract any of the silliness that may have disrupted your feeds, here's a photo of the full moon setting over Mount Hood that I took last spring. #MountHood   #FullMoon   #mountains

Hi Everyone!
Just a friendly reminder that this forum is for posts about hiking and related activities withing the Cascade Range that runs from northern California through parts of B.C.
We've been seeing lots of posts lately, including many beautiful photos, from other parts of the world. Sadly, these are all being deleted by the moderators for the simple reason that they don't belong here.
As a guide, see the map below. You're highly encouraged to share your stories, maps, photos and trail guides pertaining to the region outlined in red and the immediately adjacent areas. Don't be sad when unrelated stuff is removed without comment.
Also, promotional posts and such are not welcome here if they're pushing a product or service.
Feel free to self-promote your blog or website IF the content is directly related to Cascade Hiking.

Thanks y'all!

Ron Blakey, of Flagstaff, Arizona, has been sketching maps for decades. His first pen-and-ink maps date back to his doctoral thesis in the 1970s.

Spent the day up at Mount St. Helens hiking the Harmony Falls trail and the trail up to Norway Pass. Couldn't ask for lovelier weather.

My companions weren't feeling too intrepid yesterday, so we just did Mirror Lake and a portion of Tom, Dick & Harry Mountain. It was so warm in the mountains, but when we got back to Portland the temps were still in the 30's and apparently had been all day.

Too bad. I wish they could work something out there. Then again, there used to be like 100 cars there on weekends, and that can't be safe.
