To what extent does perfect pitch have any bearing upon one’s musicianship or ability to appreciate music? Is this dog a better musician than I, if I don’t have perfect pitch?
The common assumption is that people with perfect pitch are better musicians than those without. Who knows?

Signs of life on the blog! (Or would that be "sounds" of life...?) Either way, good stuff!

In Hungary today our doodle marks the birthday of composer and musicologist Zoltán Kodály, who is known for developing a program for music education, the Kodály Method. One aspect of the Kodály Method is the use of hand signs as a visual aid during singing—signs that fans of the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind may recognize.

This is an excerpt from my 1996 chorus/orchestra piece CYCLE OF FRIENDS. Watch and share if you like choral music and/or Emily Dickinson.

Another "video perusal score". This time it's the definitive performance of American Standard by clarinetist Peter Furniss and pianist David Leiher Jones.

Getting up at 6:30 am tomorrow to attend a rehearsal of my string quartet in Hong Kong via FaceTime (that's the iPhone video chat thingy). If that isn't spiffy, I don't know what is.
As part of the 2012 HellHot Festival in Hong Kong, Hear Here has the privilege of joining Chinese composers for this extraordinary concert.

And now..."Ducks in the Garden", composed in 1991, as performed last month by the amazing San Francisco Choral Artists. No scrolling score this time. Just a silly little montage to match a very silly poem. (U.Arts folks: the poem is by Tom Laughlin.)

Created this video rendering of my a cappella piece "Roll the Tide", incorporating the score. Do you have 3 minutes? Please share among your choral music-loving friends!
