Huge traffic spike to one of my projects last night resulted in sustained 300 Mbps outbound data transfer from the server. The hosting company thought the server was hacked and disabled the server.

This resulted in me scrambling for hours to figure out if the server was compromised and set up a new one for the website. Although I had most of the deploy automated and dockerized, there were some dependencies that broke and packages that needed to be updated.

Overall, I need to develop a better deploy system.

First time making Chicken Pad Thai. It's a pretty time-consuming dish with many parts (kind of like fried rice). Used a pre-made sauce. I say it's okay for a first attempt.

"The general rule to remember is that if some discipline seems less developed than your own, it’s probably not because the researchers aren’t as smart as you are, it’s because the subject is harder." --Paul Krugman in http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/04/22/limits-to-growth-and-related-stuff/.

I'm now on keybase: https://keybase.io/mikeh. It contains my public encryption key and provides an easy way to encrypt and sign messages/data to me.

Harvard wired internet on a good day (when their DNS servers went down and most of the campus couldn't access the internet). I think the actual speeds are faster but speedtest.net couldn't sustain them.

A WILD TURKEY appeared! (Outside of lab this morning. There were actually two, but the other ran away quickly.)

Designed and printed a USB case for the Teensy 3.1, a USB microcontroller development board. Going from top to bottom in the image were sequential iterations of making the enclosure tighter fitting. The model was designed in Sketchup 2014, which was very easy to use. The STL file was printed using Cura/pronterface + TAZ 4. Overall, it was a cool experience to make small adjustments and then have a physical model in my hands in about 20 minutes.

Just gave my sixth group meeting today feat. some special guests including Al Bard himself! The presentation was well received. There's still a lot of work to do, but I can revert back to my normal schedule now.

Thanks to +bonjun koo for taking the picture!
