Several days ago, my friend posted an article about the Dallas Morning News - and particularly how it was trying to reinvent itself as a digital publishing business model by starting over. I was inspired to write a blog article about how this Dallas Morning News article reminded me of an interview I gave to Editor & Publisher Magazine back in the year 2000 about the death of the newspaper.
Traditional media is still struggling with digital business models. I go back to my 2000 interview in Editor & Publisher about the death of the newspaper.

As diverse and unique as we all want to be in our individual existence, there’s a common bond between every person who lives or has lived on this planet – emotion. Granted, the circumstances and

Interesting Brian uses the term "gift" in conjunction with "empathy". I've always seen feelings as somewhat of an obstacle. Rethinking my worldview on that these days.
The gift of empathy reminds us we're human. The gift of empathy reminds us we're alive. Download the ebook here:

Writing a narrative storyline as a framework for the entire content strategy is an essential foundation. I tossed out some more thoughts about this in a blog post.
A successful marketing campaign maps a customer's experience as transforming journey. This journey and the engagement is built around storytelling.

What happens when someone gets an idea - and then focuses their entire existence on seeing that idea become real? Is it magic? #startup   #startups   #startuplife
The entrepreneur visualizes something in their mind, and then works to create something out of nothing. They are the modern equivalent to magicians.

I ended up with a LOT of traction on this article on LinkedIn. It got featured in the startups & entrepreneurship category. A lot of folks in the startup world are unfamiliar with the typical process of getting any funding at all, let alone more formalized funding for their project. One of the first documents you'll see is a term sheet, which is essentially an outline of the proposed terms from a prospective investor. I break down the concepts in a term sheet in this article.
So you’ve got big dreams of Mark Zuckerberg fame and fortune with your startup. Okay, cool. But you’re going to need some money to pull it off. It takes money to make money, and if you don’t come

Becoming a responsive organization starts in the marketing department of every company. Better interaction and collaboration as the the team designs and implements campaigns on an agile basis. I've adopted many of the principles of the responsive organization in my marketing consulting.
As the march towards evolving business in the knowledge economy continues, many organizations are already identifying and embracing the idea that all human communities, including organizations and

Entrepreneur, Storyteller, Business Model Architect

I've been a life-long student of business, and business models. I started working with information technology as a kid in the late 1970s. I work with early stage companies to help them approach growth stage. I help growth stage companies scale.

I am a business executive with multiple startup and early stage company experience. I've got a lot of experience with marketing, business operations, and financial experience.

In 1993, I was a founding member and CIO of the board for Lender’s Investment Group, a private mortgage insurance company headed by the former CEO of General Electric Mortgage Insurance Corp. I developed the premium billing and financial algorithm model for the company, along with the information data management strategy to enable the insurance company to obtain a Series A round of funding.

In 1995, I founded SoftLynx Interactive, one of the first web development companies in the Cincinnati, Ohio, area. In 1999, I merged the company with Reach Publishing, one of the nation’s largest direct mail marketing companies. At Reach, I headed the web marketing team, which created and implemented hybrid marketing strategies for offline/online marketing efforts for thousands of Reach advertising clients.

After exiting Reach in 2001, I became a consultant, working with many SMB and mid-market clients to create and implement business development strategies.

In 2011, I became the Director of Strategic Planning & Development for DSC Consulting, a former division of ToysRUs. Aside from my responsibility for creating the turnaround strategy, I spearheaded the new market entry into Microsoft solutions through the creation of PAITgroup, a services and training company in the SharePoint space.

In 2012, I served as President of the board of directors for the Franklin County Economic Development Commission in Franklin County, Indiana. During my tenure, our team relocated a major manufacturing company (United Refractories) to a vacant industrial facility, creating many career wage jobs. We also oversaw the grant funding process for over $1,000,000 in local business grants.

I speak at marketing and business conferences. I also coach leadership and entrepreneurship -- and consult with early and growth stage companies to help ownership teams define target markets, package their value proposition, and develop accelerated market development strategies. I have direct experience in manufacturing, retail, food service, logistics & distribution, advertising, marketing, financial, and information technology.

Started programming in DiBOL on a PDP/11 at age 8. Figured out people would pay me for that kind of thing at age 10. Learned how to sell complicated stuff to people. Awesome wife, two awesome kids. A home full of love and laughter.
