While Guava doesn't require JDK7, there are a bunch of Guava APIs that have been obsoleted by JDK7. If you're using JDK7, you should prefer the built-in JDK7 APIs over the Guava APIs; at some point, we may remove these APIs from Guava. Here’s a list of obsoleted Guava APIs and their JDK replacements:
-instead of c.g.c.base.Charsets.UTF_8, prefer java.nio.charset.StandardCharsets.UTF_8 (same goes for the other constants in our Charsets class)
-instead of c.g.c.base.Objects.equal(), prefer java.util.Objects.equals()
-instead of c.g.c.base.Objects.hashCode(), prefer java.util.Objects.hash()
-instead of c.g.c.collect.Iterators.emptyIterator(), prefer java.util.Collections.emptyIterator()
-instead of c.g.c.primitives.Booleans.compare(), prefer java.lang.Boolean.compare() (same goes for the other compare() methods in our primitive wrapper classes)
-instead of the static factory methods for creating collections (e.g. Lists.newArrayList()), prefer the constructors with the diamond operator (e.g., new ArrayList<>())
JDK8 obsoletes a ton of Guava APIs, so we’re hard at work figuring out what a JDK8-friendly version of Guava will look like!

I'm pretty satisfied so far EXCEPT where I've embedded Google Earth into my Places page. I used the online api documentation in multiple ways, and in every case my KML loads correctly, BUT, there are artifacts in the rendering.. I would be glad for advice on how to solve the problem
My 8 year old is Minecraft crazy, and though I don't understand why everything has to be big blocks, I love it. What I don't love is descending into dependency hell trying to load any of the million or so truly awesome mods (evil minions that mine resources for you? Of course!) into this week's version update.
To its credit, the Minecraft team iterates frequently, and it's easy to choose any version to play, but I feel like I'm back in RedHat 4.0 playing dependency bingo to load to the right mod with the right version. Even better, the mods live in the nightmare world of PHP forums, so the actual getting is a mini-game of "Find the Link" amidst the sea of garbage and spam links (reminiscent of early Android ROM distribution).
So. Where is the package manager,
apt-get install evil_minions 1.6.4
(There's https://github.com/lahwran/mcpkg, but that's been abandoned for years.)
Seriously, I don't grok how anyone (even married couples where both may have very high incomes) could (or perhaps would) reasonably pay 8K / month in rent. If you can afford that much, I believe you could buy a really nice place in the same area... I believe 8K/month can pay the mortgage on a $1.5M place.
