Nice now we just need a global menu type of wrapper, that will put a hud in the bottom gesture for x apps, will really boost usability to remove the menus.

Just days after +Dustin Kirkland posted about an example snap store, the first production 3rd party store goes live!

This is really great news! An open snap store that can be used across all distros. I'm excited to see where this goes.

If you like the idea of Ubuntu on things like the Nexus 5, OnePlus One or Fairphone, then Marius is the guy to support.

Hi, my name is Marius Gripsgard also known as mariogrip and i’m the creator and main developer of Ubports.

Ubports is a home for devices such as the OnePlus One, Nexus 5 and many more still in development, Ubports is also a home to developers who wish to port Ubuntu to devices, these can be any phone, tablet, or other device that doesn’t currently run Ubuntu touch.

Why patreon
Porting to devices takes a lot of time and effort, that doesn’t even include maintaining previously ported devices, keeping the servers up and running and the Ubports websites up to date among other timely things such as writing documentation, being active on forums, and developing and maintaining the android tree and our portcraft which was created in hopes to make porting to devices a lot easier, and this is mostly done by one person who can’t afford to do this development full time.

Don’t get me wrong, I really love doing this and I would love to work on this full time, but as the situation is now, I have to have a job and working on Ubports at my free time. That’s where patreon come in, I want to work on Ubports as my full time job.

You've probably seen what I've been able to accomplish over the past couple of months. If you enjoyed the ride so far, please consider supporting me as a patron so we can continue porting it together!

Doesn't he get support from canonical? It sure looks like he should.

Beautiful work by +Kyle Fazzari: not only did he snap +Nextcloud, he also wrote a 6-part blog series about it, here's part one, go check it out: https://kyrofa.com/posts/installing-nextcloud-can-be-a-snap
I've been an ownCloud user for years, and I recently moved to using Nextcloud, which is based upon ownCloud. Both my wife and I use it to sync our calendars and contacts across all our devices, and also use it to sync our documents, music, pictures, and videos. It caters to my paranoid nature-- ...

I've posted the initial version of snap-confine for openSUSE to my home OBS repository: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:zyga/snap-confine

The package needs some more work to pass rpmlint checks, most notably because snap-confine is a setuid executable and that fails checks right away.

I'm going to follow rpmlint suggestions and file a bug to allow snap-confine to be setuid.

Some perspective from some others who benefit from Ubuntu and keeping it's trademark meaningful

Even if Canonical plays nice, and just uses the trademark enforcing "for good", the problem in not having everything crystal clear in agreements (as it is now, with several loose knots) is that tomorrow some "not so nice" company buys Canonical and start chasing fresh meat, going after those that distribute / use / whatever Ubuntu, specially those with deep pockets.
See the Sun vs Android (which was publicly "blessed" by Sun CEO), and the mess it became when Oracle came into scene...

There is one week left to nominate yourself or somebody else to sit on the Ubuntu Membership board. These boards evaluate contributions to the Ubuntu project and community, and promote those with significant and sustained contributions to the status of Ubuntu Members, which gives them additional rights and responsibilties in Ubuntu.
As you may know, Ubuntu Membership is a recognition of significant and sustained contribution to Ubuntu and the Ubuntu community. To this end, the Community Council recruits members of our current membership community for the valuable role of reviewing and evaluating the contributions of ...

My kids loved gCompris, it's a very comprehensive suite of educational and entertaining games.

There are now over 1000 downloads* of snappy for Fedora from my COPR repository. Snappy loves Fedora and apparently Fedora community also loves Snappy :-)

* Total number of packages downloaded in the last seven days.
