Hi Dad - At this part of the stream it is actually an ordinary dirt/mud river bed, not far from where it meets the ocean. Glad you liked the picture. And yes, this is where we both walked and biked. love back at ya! - Mike

Here we go again. Another holiday season is upon us when raucous rednecks will square off against flaming liberals around many dinner tables in order to dutifully correct each others' misperceptions of how the world works. Therefore, in honor of these noisy folks (myself, especially, included!) I share my annual holiday reminder. I hope it will keep us all motivated to shut up about controversy & simply compliment Aunt Fern on her lovely casserole. Enjoy! http://goo.gl/YqaJ59

This is VERY cool! These Silicon Valley startups are creating meat without the hulking, farting, pooping, plant-gorging, bleeding cattle and eggs without the cage-crowded antibiotic-injected chickens. And they have millions of dollars of investors' money betting on them. GREAT story... and good news for humanity & the planet.

Glad you liked the video, Tony. And I'm so glad you found my series of articles on ID PM to be useful. I eventually turned that series, plus a couple of additional items, into a text book back in 1992. The book is now out of print, but I scanned it to create a couple of big PDFs, one for use in an e-reader and the other suitable for printing/copying to make your own hard copy. I would love to send you a complimentary copy of one or both of these PDFs. Let me know if you would like one. Here's more info on them here: http://michaelgreer.biz/?p=4253 Have a great weekend!

I know Costcos. I've crossed the country several times, visiting Costcos all along the way. I've even been to a Costco in Watford, England! And while I've never really seen a bad Costco, they do differ in small ways from store to store. This is my home-base store and I go there a couple of times a week. This Costco is one of the top 1 or 2 stores in the US in sales volume, according to its managers. And while the lines can be packed at peak periods or pre- holidays, they keep people flowing through the checkout at a fairly good pace. Their beer, wine & spirits selection, as well as some of the upscale seasonal gifts and clothing items seems to be a little more extensive than in the suburban Costcos. And no matter what time of the year or how hectic, the staff always is extremely helpful. They are always upbeat and eager to please. Check it out by bus! [I know... Costco sized paper towel bundles on a bus? Maybe not, but...] -- The Culver City #1 bus stops right in front of the store on Washington Blvd. at the Glencoe Ave. stop. And it's only a short walk (1/8 mile?) from the Santa Monica Big Blue bus stops at the corner of Lincoln & Washington Blvd.

Love it! Great vegetarian menu & groceries from India! What more could you ask for! (Culver City bus line #1 stops right out front, Berryman Avenue stop, on the way to/from Venice Pier/beach.)

Picked up and later dropped off my son here. Nice, clean place. Helpful staff. Free wi-fi. Overall one of the best bus stations I've seen. (Son complained that prices on food, vending were too high -- like the airports.)

Great Mexican food, giant portions, authentic recipes, and a family tradition for many of the multi-generational families who have been coming here for years. This food is the real deal, like your Mexican friends might serve you if they liked you enough to take the time required to prepare it.

A gem of a park! Marina views on three sides, sea birds, sail boats, kayaks, shaded picnic areas, & the occasional barking of sea lions make this our favorite quick getaway. Pick up some takeout from one of the eateries (our favorite is Chipotle Mexican Grill) near the park entrance, then park for free on weekdays & kick back at this quintessential LA hangout. Disclaimer: Some homeless folks can sometimes get a bit rowdy from their base in one of the picnic pavilions. They only hassle each other, though, and generally keep to themselves. The park layout makes it easy to avoid them and find your own quiet nook among the evergreens. (My Christmas Day 2012 photos were shot here.)

It's hard to find fresh, low-fat, beautifully spiced, good-for-you food at a reasonable price, but these guys have it! You custom-design your own meal as you look at, evaluate, point at, then order your ingredients & watch them build your burrito, bowl, salad, etc. And it's hard to spend more than $10 per person! If I could have only one fast food restaurant on Planet Earth, it would be Chipotle!
