Government intrusion into the church has taken root... let us stop this before it becomes epidemic.

So, when did Christianity become about a set of principled rules to live by? When did it morph into a religious sect in the midst of a multitude of other religious sects? How did it transform into a state of participatory programs and measured analytics built upon demographic details and heuristic responses? And if you don't know what any of that gobbledygook means, don't fret... you're not alone! But I've seen these very terms bandied about in a multitude of forums and discussions as even well-intentioned thinkers try to inform the average "man-on-the-street" what Christianity is supposed to be.

But I fear that the world has co-opted the understanding of what it means to be a Christian and has re-defined it with worldly variables and social markers. They have made society (and even many who call themselves Christians) to believe that Christianity is relegated only to church attendance and religious observances and thus has effectively cast out the faith from the public square of our nation. No prayer in schools, no faith in politics, no Christ in the marketplace, and the list goes on and on... and on. And if you have come to believe that your Christianity is a private matter, meant only for Sunday church attendance and special religious observances, you have been effectively marginalized by those who make every effort to corral the followers of Christ.

But the Christian faith is not about simply "being good." Christianity is not merely the participation in religious programs or observing a set of principles but about having a surrendered life to a person, a King and Savior: the Lord Jesus Christ. It is about receiving the forgiveness of all your sins because the Savior has paid the cost through His death and made eternal life available through His resurrection. It is about a living hope which is anchored to promises made by a living God who wants all men and women to receive His mercy and grace. It is about following a real person, the Lord Jesus Christ, in every aspect of your real life and not just adhering to a set of religious principles and observances that can do nothing to rescue anyone from sin.

So let us stand again as faithful followers of Jesus Christ, as Christians who believe in a Kingdom that will never end. Let us stand in the promises of God which are more trustworthy than anything offered by men. Let us believe, not in a set of rules or principles or programs, but in Jesus Christ the Righteous One and the salvation He freely offers to all who repent and receive His mercy and grace.

Even as we read from Acts 2:36-41...

"Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.” Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.
