Privatization of Higher Education Deserves Scrutiny and Skepticism http://wp.me/pXmHL-VH #highered #studentloans #vouchers .@eduniv

On March 18th, 2015, the Illinois Senator Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) proposed a new set of hardened news rules for students to adhere to if they want grants from the good people of Illinois (News-Gazette, 3-24-2015). Senator Brady’s bill, SB 1565, creates…

Tribulations of GIS Center Management #GIS #Geomentoring #ProjectManagement

The unfortunate position of blogging in situ circumstances is having to constantly prognosticate the down-stream consequences of words and assertions. If my words appear to deliberately obfuscate some details, you are observant. As the saying goes, names…

ESRI International Users Conference: Day 2 (blog post) #esriuc .@EsriEd #geospatial #sandiego

One of San Diego’s best traits is the dog community. Dogs are great; their owners vary in disposition as much as dogs vary in size, weight, color, temperament, and breath odor. Walking down the sidewalk in San Diego, one may pass all sorts of dogs breeds…

ESRI Education Users Conference Day 2 .@ESRI #ESRIUC #Leadership #SanDiego

Cities are like people. They breath, work, play, sleep. Cities experience stress, can feel tight, like before a storm. Tense and holding a breath, becoming sweaty and anxious, cities can build a strain. The rains arrive and the city plays in the rain,…

Summer Work in Higher Education http://wp.me/pXmHL-T9 #HigherEducation #EDTech #Education

Book Review: Anansi Boys, by Neil Gaiman

Anansi Boys, by Neil Gaiman. Harper Torch Fiction Publishing. 2005. $8. I’m not sure Neil needs his books reviewed, actually. His books are enjoyable fiction. If you like Douglas Adams, you might enjoy Anansi Boys. British humor is hilarious; their gift…

Higher Education Needs A Start-Up Mindset #entrepreneurs #geospatial #startups .@melectable

I have numerous posts espousing changes I think I’d like to see in Higher Education. In May 2012, I posted Fostering Education Through Student Incubators (5-21-2012); in November 2013 I posted Education Is Like A Dysfunctional Family (11-6-2013); in…

ESRI International Users Conference: Day 1 .@ESRIed #esriuc #geospatial #SanDiego #edu #ebola #omalley

One convenience of traveling to the same locale over time is consistency. San Diego seems to transform with each visit, though in essence change is more superficial, more cosmetic, than truly trans-formative. My comment may seem insulting and I don’t mean…
