And Then

Last month, my wife's uncle died in a tragic accident in LA when the bicycle he was using to get lunch was hit by a truck. At the memorial service his daughter relayed a very touching story.

She said her dad (who was her best friend) called every day to talk. But instead of opening the call with the customary "How are you" or "What's going on", her dad always opened the conversation with "And then?" Her father viewed each conversation as a continuation of the last, and what pained her the most was that there were to be no more "and thens". I cried.

Since then I've thought a lot about how similar this is to our life's endeavors. We pour our heart and soul into our work and it becomes something we love and cherish. But even the challenges we work on today will one day become "and thens" as we move on to the next.

Today I'm announcing my departure from Google after almost 8 years.

I have been incredibly fortunate to work with the amazing people of Google. I don't believe there is a more talented and passionate collection of people anywhere else. And I'm overwhelmed when I think about the leadership of +Larry Page and what he empowered me to do while at Google. From starting Google I/O, to being responsible for all mobile applications, to creating Google+, none of this would have happened without Larry's encouragement and support.

I'm also forever in debt to the Google+ team. This is a group of people who built social at Google against the skepticism of so many. The growth of active users is staggering, and speaks to the work of this team. But it doesn't tell you what kind of people they are. They are invincible dreamers. I love them. And I will miss them dearly.

Finally, thank you to all those who I've met on Google+. The community here has been so supportive that I don't even know how to say thank you. You all make Google+. Without you, this social network wouldn't exist. Your support for Google+, and for me personally is something I will never forget.

But, now is the time for a new journey. A continuation. An "and then". I am excited about what's next. But this isn't the day to talk about that. This is a day to celebrate the past 8 years. To cry. And smile. And to look forward to the journey yet to come.

And then....

The rumor mill is churning, this time with buzz that the Nexus 6 will be built by LG. Sounds like it could be based off the G Pro 2 or LG G Flex.

Fast and friendly! I woke up on Friday with my eye all red and bloodshot. I did not think anything of it because I slept on it funny. Come Saturday morning my eye had worsen and was now in pain. It was clear that it needed attention. Google suggested this place as it was close to where I live. Needless to say this place gave my eye the attention my eye needed. The doctor and nurses were prompt and ensured I was comfortable while they ran test and asked questions to determine what was wrong with my eye. These test may seem excessive but i think they have me the piece of mind that I would receive the right treatment. The doctor concluded that I had an eye infection. I was given a prescription for antibiotics and something for the pain. As I write this my eye already has improved not more than 10 hours after the visit. I do note that some of the reviews at the time of this posting comment on price and procedures. Although I have not revived a bill yet beyond my er copay I can conclude that you pay for what you get. Good service cost money. Good medicine requires test. I would much weather do test and pay for them and get the right treatment than loose my eye because assumptions about my condition were made to save a few dollars. Should also remind people this is a ER visit. Not a urgent care center. Thanks again ER247plus for taking a bad day and making it a good one by giving me the piece of mind and proper treatment.

I was excited to go to this place. I love Italian food. But it turns out I don't love all Italian restaurants. First impressions started at the drinks. I ordered my usual for lunch. Doctor Pepper, but this time served in a wine glass. The taste was off, maybe something to do with the ice. All I know is I love Doctor Pepper, but loathed every sip of what ever this was. I thought things would get better once the bread arrived. I could not have been more wrong. The bread was hamburger buns toasted and buttered and over seasoned. I guess it could have come from a cannonball shaped french bread, but the texture reminded me all to much of toasted buns. After a very long wait the main entry was served. The food was too salty and over seasoned with some weird spice. The spice was not hot, but it was STRONG. I dined with 3 others, everybody agreed this was bad Italian food. Nobody finished their plate, or even 4th of their plate with exception to the guy who had lasagna. In any case, the food tasted so bad (to us) that we will not be visiting this place again :(

Good food but the worst service ever. It took forever to just order our food. I am not that picky but when a quick lunch turns into a 2 hour thing that makes me upset. One of the people I went there with got the wrong plate and was changed for a dinner portion when he clearly asked for a lunch portion. When confronted the waiter basically said my friend asked for the wrong thing and it was his fault. Good, food, bad service, won't go there again.
