Google's Panda, Penguin and Hummingbird search algorithms affect around 90% of online searches, according to Search Engine Watch. These algorithms strip out "bad searches" – sites stuffed with keywords, duplicated content and manipulated hyperlinks – and rightly so; the onus for higher search rankings has consequently been placed on the quality, originality and relevance of online content.

These ‘hard’ assets, don’t of themselves, execute strategy, make sales and so on. It takes people to do that. People are the ‘soft’ assets organisations purchase in order to execute strategy. Mismanagement of these ‘soft’ assets can have very hard consequences just as there are big payoffs in managing people well.

It's All Social Now

Here is a good read by +Mark Traphagen

What you do offline can positively effect your online and social media success.

In my social media classes, I call it convergence.  It is not only about your online social media activity.  For personal branding, social media complements and should never replace your physical networking.

Mark gives some good examples for connecting offline with online personal branding.  I like the idea to include your Twitter and/or Google+ ID on each slide of a presentation.

More suggestions at: https://www.linkedin.com/today/post/article/20140813174834-13325642-it-s-all-social-now-how-non-sm-events-affect-social-media

How do you connect your offline networking with your online social networking?

Beginning a couple of months ago, some companies’ managed business pages began to see a noticeable fall-off in activity. Their posts were reaching a much smaller number of fans than usual. After several weeks of tracking this trend, several companies asked Facebook if this was something on their end or had Facebook changed its algorithm. Facebook did not answer clearly for quite some time.

There is a compelling case, comprehensively researched over this last decade or so, for pro-actively working on the employee engagement levels of your employees, but, aside from that, it just makes plain common sense and/or good business sense as, the level of engaged employees has a direct impact on many of the key business measures in an organisation.
