Free programming language ideas, to good home:
http://samskivert.com/bikeshed/
half-baked thoughts on programming languages. The bike shed is where I post ideas about programming languages, mostly a particular hypothetical programming language that I hope never to create. For background, see the inaugural post.

I don't have any real input on this other than I think you should paint the bike shed red.

Do I really need to install a third party app to migrate all my apps, data, user accounts and home screen config to a new Nexus 7? Where's my "restore from iCloud backup" option?

I never did. So I ended up just reinstalling all the apps by hand. But I'll take a look at the settings app tonight. Thanks!

"Nevertheless, the JVM is so mature, well-tested, fast, flexible, and allows for such detailed runtime profiling and monitoring, that I wouldn’t consider running a critical, non-trivial server process on anything else."

Amen to that brother.

Welcome Everything collectors!

We're starting the beta test for our new Everything mobile app. Now you can flip your cards on your phone (or tablet) while sipping your morning coffee!

If you want to participate in the beta test, you'll need to have an Android phone or tablet, running Android 2.4 (Gingerbread) or newer. The Everything mobile app will also be release for iPhone and iPad, but Apple makes it extremely difficult to beta test on their platform, so we're doing our public beta test on Android only.

To participate in the test, join this group, and then click on this link to become a beta tester:

https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.threerings.everything

This page will allow you to become a tester and also link you to the Google Play store page for the Everything Game.

Once you've got the game installed on your phone or tablet, you can play just like you do via the Facebook app. It uses your same Facebook account to link you to your collection, so you can play either via the web or your mobile device.

A few things to beware of (this is a beta!):

- you probably won't be able to buy coins via the mobile app yet (you may notice that the prices are a lot lower on the mobile app, we'll be lowering the prices on the Facebook app as well once the mobile app launches); I need to enable some things to make purchases work, and I'm not sure if Google allows beta apps to buy in-app purchases

- sometimes the text overflows on the back of cards; I'll be trying to detect that and shrink it to fit

There's more polishing I'd like to do (fancy animations and such), but everything should be working smoothly enough for you to enjoy the mobile experience on a regular basis.

Please send feedback by posting to this Google Group. I look forward to hearing what you think!
Google Play Developer Console enables developers to easily publish and distribute their applications directly to users of Android-compatible phones. Come one. Come all. Google Play Developer Console is open to all Android application developers. Once registered, developers have complete control ...

First of all, a big welcome to all the new Editors. You have hit the ground running and already created a lot of awesome new series! Thanks!

A few bits of advice / requests that will make my life a bit easier when I do final review of the series before activating them:

- Please check punctuation as well as grammar and content when reviewing your own and other's series. I fixed about two dozen descriptions/facts which lacked a space between, for example, a word and a parenthesis, or after a period and before the next word.

- Please check your "Source" URLs. Once you are done preparing your series, go through and click the "Source: Foo" links on each card to make sure they go to the right place (it will open the pages in a new window/tab so you won't lose your place). Some of the series had incorrectly formatted URLs ( like "<url>" instead of just "url") and some of them just linked to the wrong place.

- Please use full sentences in the description of the cards. You can get away with fragments in the facts, but not the description. (So if you're describing a TV show character, using "Played by Blah Blah" is not a good description.) And please use punctuation. A period is definitely necessary in the description, and except in very special cases, it's also necessary for each fact.

Otherwise things look great! It's great to see a bunch of interesting new series being added to the game again. I'm sure the players that had previously maxed out their collections and collected every card will be excited to finally get some new stuff!

I don't think they're looking for editors right now.  They just took on a whole bunch for the first time in years.

Have a Facebook account and an Android device? Help test the mobile version of a game that I made for Facebook ages ago. (Yes, I'll add Google+ support eventually; there are only so many hours in the day.)
