There seems to be this need in human nature to be all-in or all-against any idea. It bothers me that people can't realize that many things fall in between. For instance, this debate over climate change; people (including the IPCC) insist on making it all or nothing when the actual scientific consensus is more like "sure, we have an effect, its maybe even 50%our fault."
That's good enough, isn't it? If climate change is half our fault and half nature's, lets do something about our half and stop lying about the rest, okay?

For most countries, the #Olympics is an opportunity to show off the talents of your best athletes. In many cases, money is also an important factor. In this one, the only factor.

There is a famous old proverb, "give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach him to fish and he can feed himself for life." The medical equivalent is playing out in Africa right now and this story is wonderful:

Neurosurgeon Dr. Dilan Ellegala set about creating a new model to solve the chronic shortage of doctors and surgeons in rural Africa by putting the surgeon's skills in their hands.

I wonder far too often if people who are for more taxes have ever actually done the math. While a little difficult to read, it's nice to see someone actually pointing it out. The TL DR version, too much government spending no matter the source of Revenue leads to depressed outcomes.

It makes me angry to read that the state is more concerned with the system appearing to be fair than actual #justice being done.
The friend's story is yet another excellent example of why nobody should allow themselves to be questioned without a lawyer present.

I grew up in a mining town so I find mineral #science exciting...
From deep inside a Siberian mine, researchers have catalogued a series of materials unlike any others yet found in the ground. They do, however, bear a startling similarity to certain lab-grown materials that weren’t thought to exist in nature at all—until now.

Oh my, don't read this on your lunch break.
What's the opposite of #foodporn?

So I noticed that #Microsoft has this free cloud-based active directory product called #Azure and they have free trials and even a supposedly free version of it. Well don't you know, to sign up you need to provide them a credit card for validation. That's not gonna happen Microsoft, I don't trust you, and I'm not the only one:
https://feedback.azure.com/forums/170030-billing/suggestions/8898328-credit-card-not-mandatory-what-if-no-credit-card
In order to follow an Online course (edX TSQL), I tried the classic way to SQL Server and importing an mdf file but I didn't success... So as the teacher said about Azure trial 1month stuff, I decided to subscribe (even if I don't like that) It's sad I needed to fill my credit card information, I imagine the people that have NO credit card, but also I don't want to be forced to pay for something, especially if it's for study use (non professionna...

I'm not sure if this is proof that power corrupts or simply evidence he never cared in the first place but it is very unfortunate that #wikileaks can't be more responsible with their releases.
Several traditional news organizations have proven themselves to be far more thorough with their fact-checking and editing while still protecting sources.
Wikileaks editor-in-chief Julian Assange blatantly lied about publishing only the “last four digits” of credit card numbers from democratic donors during an appearance on the HBO show Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday.

I've always found computer virus and antivirus research fascinating, like a digital spy vs spy cold war story. Every so often though, a piece of #malware comes along to make you wonder if actual cold war actors aren't involved...

Akin to a cheese maker in Parma being told they can't say so for fear of diluting the Parmesan name, a wine maker couldn't give their location in Ontario until this ruling:

Introduction
I tend to think a lot, and I make a living doing a lot of computer related stuff.  I enjoy photography, coding, gaming, music and movies and spending time with my family.

See http://mikebabcock.ca/aboutme for some more of my idiosyncrasies and my personality profile.

As for G+, I post about whatever I find interesting at the moment -- I don't have anything to plug or push on anyone except my thoughts.  If I share a product or website, its because I actually value it or found it interesting.

I love photography, and art in general, I enjoy good stories, books, video games and movies.  I'm an expert in many things computer-related, including networking, Linux, programming and a variety of database and hardware thing-a-ma-bobs.

Feel free to ask me random computer questions if you see me online, I may be busy, and I may not know, but if I do I try to help out.  Mind you, if you're making money off my answers, send me some of it ;-).
