The #greatest #generation.

"Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon a great crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers in arms on other fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle hardened, he will fight savagely.

But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man to man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our home fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to victory!

I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory!

Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessings of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.

-- Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower

That looks really delicious and interesting. Wonder what the olive oil powder does for the dish.

Although, we can easily agree that if 1 is full bars, and we get 2, someone is lying to us in the middle. Gotta hate that. :-/

Great space in an open warehouse. Excellent beers. Ample parking. If you like brew pubs, you'll love this place. I didn't eat, but they do have quite a few choices.

I can't think of anything about Via Verdi that isn't great - First, kudos to the Chefs/Entrepreneurs who put together the idea to fuse a martini bar and a casual northern Italian restaurant in the developing area north of Midtown. Second, the restaurant has several environments depending on the mood you are in: - the bar is open and airy, and you can enjoy a masterfully crafted cocktail and the full menu. It's a great place to watch a sporting event, or just to chill out. The guys at Via Verdi do a lot of events and get togethers, which keeps it interesting. - there is a very large outdoor patio for dining outside in the fresh air - there is a nice sized, cool dining room in case it's hot outside - there is a romantic two person table inside the wine cantina, in case you want a romantic setting for the night (you probably want to call well ahead to reserve that table). Third, the service is excellent - the staff is well trained, knows the food, is cordial and friendly, and all of them seem to speak Italian, English and Spanish. So you can't go wrong. Also, you will see one of the Chef/Owners walking around at almost all times, checking on the tables and providing recommendations. Forth, and this is a big one - FREE AMPLE PARKING. Yes, there is a free parking lot with approximately 20 spaces directly outside the restaurant. Where have you seen that lately in Miami? No obnoxious valet to deal with.... no over aggressive ticket cops waiting to give you a ticket 2 minutes after your parking expires. No tow truck mafia waiting to tow your car at any moment for some invented infraction. You can enjoy your meal and wine without worry. Who needs South Beach when you've got Via Verdi? And finally the most important thing - the cuisine. The guys that opened this place are the same guys that were the executive chefs at Quattro on Lincoln Road - so you can expect the same very high food quality and some new menu items as well. I actually saw an episode of Iron Chef that they were on! Fresh burrata cheese, seasonal dishes (truffles anyone?), a great wine selection... awesome. I would be remiss to neglect to mention the resident mixologist/owner - try the Italian Mojito - you won't regret it (ok you might regret it the next morning, but that's a different story......)

Stayed at the Westin City Center a few weeks ago on a business trip. This is not one of the Westin's nicer properties. First of all, the place is weird - I got an upgrade to a suite (room 500) due to being SPG Platinum. The room is directly outside of the elevators. The view was an internal atrium type structure, so the room was super dark as no sunlight got in. The room was sort of circular with the main feature being the bathroom, which had two entrances, however the bathroom was not stand out in anyway. It was old, dark, and dated. Secondly - there is massive construction going on - everything is all screwed up and at times it seems you're in a maze. The lounge is closed, you have to take 2 elevators to get to the rooms, and most of the lobby is walled off with plastic sheeting. Suffice to say, NO ONE is hanging out here due to this chaos, and so the restaurant and bar (if they were even open) were desolate. To be totally honest, it's almost bordering on misdemeanor-criminal and definitely bad business to not tell people the extent of the inconvenience of the construction. They are not painting a few walls here, they're doing a complete structural overall including drilling, tearing walls down, jack hammering, etc. which has a major impact on the quality of life while staying here. I'll probably end up staying at another Westin due to the SPG program being pretty good, however there's no way I'm coming back here.

Great coffee options, outdoor seating, free WiFi. This place really is what Starbucks would have been if they had chosen to concentrate on coffee and not wall Street.

I'm not sure what management is doing to their employees here but they were ANGRY. I was actually worried that the cashier was going to reach across the belt and slap me for wanting to purchase something. The ladies behind the bread counter were surly and even the dude sweeping the floors (in the middle of business hours) was bumping into people without saying a word. I guess this is what happens when you lose almost the entirety of your market share to Whole Foods and Fresh Market. Can't see any reason to come back and get treated like crap while shelling out big bucks for the same stuff you can get at Whole Foods.

I'm not sure how anyone could rate this less than 5-stars. When the weather is good and the tide is out, this place is special, indeed. Great views of downtown. What I'm really dying to know is, how fast does the edge drop off? Because it seems like you could walk right out to where the ships are sailing by.
