People really seem to be of two minds of his portrayal, and I can see both sides. I do think it was a poorly written scene though, dialog wise, and the set up was just as bad, but there is some realism in having a busy body trying to decide for someone else what his or her sexuality is. I just think Bendis was missing key points and I don't think bobby being gay adds anything to the story, especially since bendis is about to leave the book. He and some fans claim this opens a bunch of opps for iceman as if being gay suddenly guarantees he'll be used more frequently and more seriously, but my response to that is, "How much did that help Northstar or Wiccan?" Both of those characters barely get any stories focused on them, play support, and often disappear until another stunt is needed. That's what happens to almost every lgbt character in comics, even in xmen. He didn't do iceman a favor, especially if he did it in his final issues where he will barely explore anything related to this reveal.
I, too, BTW don't care for much of bendis's writing. I just try to be objective towards him, but a lot of characters I really liked suffered at his hands. And I'll never forgive him for everything Sentry related that came from his pen, lol.
