This post is long-overdue. I made this decision a while back but I needed to sort out my thoughts and figure out how to explain my reasons.
Djinnborn is going on indefinite hiatus. Rest assured, I will be writing and drawing Djinnborn in the future. But for now, I think it’s best for me to set it aside for now. Recent work stress has made it difficult for me to keep up even with already-drawn pages, and I feel that the added stress of a regular webcomic is something I can’t keep up with right now.
In addition, I am going back to school to get an art degree starting this fall. I want to focus on my classes and do the best I can, and I want to make sure I can make school a priority.
Djinnborn will be drawn and published. I am not giving up on this comic or this world. I’ve put a lot of work into it and I do want to share it with everyone. If I feel like my school workload allows me to support a webcomic, I may do this sooner rather than later. But I want to make sure class can be my top priority at all times because I really want to do well.
So what happens in the meantime?
I have given this some thought. I want some kind of drawing project that can keep my creative juices flowing. So I came up with an idea that I can manage at my own pace.
In my years roleplaying, both at a tabletop and on the Internet, I have found many roleplayers have a craving for freely-available art that they can use to represent their characters. Many go and find pictures online, but they often don’t have permission to use those pictures.
My goal is to create a collection of pictures that are released under a non-commercial attribution sharealike license for gamers and roleplayers to use. I will start with drawing icons of generic characters like “elf mage” or whatnot, and eventually work into other concepts, maybe full-body drawings. The idea is not to draw any specific characters, but rather to create images that anyone can use. I would release small “sets” of icons, 5 images of an elf mage displaying different expressions or something.
I actually have a Patreon in the works for this project, so stay tuned for the link there. If you feel like this is something worth endorsing, I would greatly appreciate your support.
I’ll start with fantasy D&D-style characters but I do want to move into other genres like science fiction, superheroes, modern fantasy, and so on. I may even create “generic humans” like “caucasian man with brown hair” or something.
Meanwhile, thank you for reading. I hope you’ll consider supporting the Patreon when I release it, And if a Patreon’s recurring payment isn’t your thing, I’ll have a PayPal that you can use for one-off donations.
Thank you again, and stick around to see more art!
