SEO Critical Thinker & Data Marketeer
Introduction
I believe in algorithm-based SEO and marketing over guess work and general platitudes. The enjoyment of SEO is the challenge in finding out how Google's algorithm work.

Seasoned work experience on both client-side and in-house side of SEO in a variety of industries from Ecommerce, Enterprise, Publishing, and Gaming. I've spoken at four SMX conferences (domestic and international) and love espousing my views through SEO musings on what I think Google can and cannot do.

I focus heavily around Web Analytics (Google Analytics in particular) and love the idea of using regression analyses to determine Google's algorithm. Additionally, any way I can tie revenue back to the work in any marketing channel is a large plus for me.

I think this is a key point about Europe and really for any company that essentially is a monopoly (purely from winning the market to such an extent not from doing anything nefarious).

[T]he twist with Google is its massive marketshare in Europe. It has 90% or more of the general search share in most European countries. With such a monopoly, it might have to act differently than others, especially if its behavior is deemed to harm competition.

Basically: When does something go from being a fair and competitive market to a "dumb pipe" that requires some minimal regulation (like Internet lines)?

After years of investigation, we finally have a formal EU antitrust complaint against Google in search. It's narrow -- all about shopping search. Here's a

The cynic in me says non link metrics were easier to spam in the end.

This makes no sense.  Yandex is bringing back links as a ranking factor because the number of paid links in the ecosystem didn't go down as much as Yandex had hoped?  I'm confused.

(I've tried and tried, but I haven't heard one word from any search on what impact removing links as a ranking factor had on the quality of the SERPs.  My kingdom to be fluent in Russian!:)

"Why are Yandex making this change? About a year ago Yandex head of Search, Alexander Sadovsky, announced that they will begin to disregard links as a ranking-factor. This was big news in the SEO-world since links have been one of the major ranking factors up until that point. They expected the number of link buyers to go down rapidly when they announced the non-link policy a year ago. However, the result (according to themselves) was that the number of Paid links only dropped with around 16 % in total. So the reason for this turn around is to speed everything up and clean up the link mess that is still live and kicking in Russia."

I'm placing my bets on the large focus on mobile forestalling any work on Panda/Penguin pushes. Not sure if they'll push them out at the same time as the mobile change, but I do expect things to get rocky again post-April.

It has been over 4 months since a Google Penguin or Panda update and Google's John Mueller tells us the data updates are currently done manually.

It may be rudimentary, but always good to see more services providing possible insights into issues to their website.
Moz's Spam Score metric helps quantify the relative risk of penalization/banning by search engines using a series of correlated flags. This post helps explain where you can find Spam Score, how to use it, and the R&D behind its development.

HAH. Good luck with this France. No way am I seeing this happening...

#seo
France wants to force Google to hand over their entire search algorithm in a new law they are attempting to pass targeting the search giant. The heart of the issue is France’s belief that Google’s algorithm unfairly favors its own properties in search results, a situation that is expected to bring antitrust charges in Europe …

Suppose Google did hand it over.

They would not have the engineers to understand it in its entirety.

Also do they think it comes on a disk.

Classic case of a politician thinking sash good idea but no idea what or how it involves

Would it really hurt to have some consistency/clarity on these issues? Please? :)

Google had given statements that its Panda and Penguin anti-spam fighting filters were running constantly. Now it says there's still delays between data pushes.

That's my latest post. It's a good example of how hidden technical dangers could destroy SEO. As of today, the problem is still there.
A few weeks ago, I was contacted by a small business owner about my SEO services. And what started out as a simple check of a website turned into an interes
