International Book Giving Day is coming up Feb 14th! +Emma Perry +Catherine Friess are the founders behind this great day of giving and reading!

International Book Giving Day (IBGD) is an annual event which takes place on February 14th. The aim of the day is to encourage as many people as possible to donate books to children.

Emma Perry from +My Book Corner is the organiser of IBGD and I talked to her about what her role involves and the IBGD activities that have taken place worldwide in previous years.

If you are able to donate books for IBGD that would be fantastic and there are ideas for how to get involved in the blogpost. We would also really appreciate you sharing this and any other IBGD blogposts or tweets on social media to help us spread the word about the day.

Thank you for your support!

I blog excessively about children's and YA books. I am also the co-founder of Multicultural Children's Book Day on Jan 27th.
Introduction
Find parenting solutions using children's books while raising three kids. Hobbies include boxing, yoga, and social media. In my past life before kids, I was an entrepreneur.

Circles that You Might Consider Me For:

  • Blogger
  • Mom Blogger
  • Education
  • Children's Books
  • Parenting
  • Literacy

I’m a mom with three kids, ages 13,11 and 8  and I live in a suburb outside of Boston.  I’ve been a full-time bread-winner (my first and my husband stayed home with her), a stay-at-home mom (my second because my husband said that if he had to stay home with two kids he’d be forced to leave us), and an outside-the- home wage earner/stay-at-home mom (just recently). I can say that having done the SAHM, the WAHM, and the full time work mommy that NONE of it is easy or perfect.  All have pros and cons and the grass is always greener.

For me, getting through the humps of parenting was only possible with the help of many, many mom friends.  Over the years, I’ve found that I wished I’ve saved all the mom advice I have either learned from mom friends or learned the hard way.  Now, I’m documenting it in hopes that it will be useful to you.

My background includes an A.B. from Harvard in History and Science (yeah, very obscure I know — I was an unhappy Pre-Med) and an M.B.A. from the Anderson School at U.C.L.A (that was more fun).  I also have an entrepreneurial bent as one of the co-founders of Aquent, a talent agency for marketers and designers. I blog on children’s literature, education and parenting and whatever else life throws at me.  I started reading children’s lit again two years ago when I realized I was giving my oldest Newbery Award Winning books that were her reading level, but were inappropriate because of content.  As my middle child started reading independently, she was so picky that I had to wrack my brain to get her books she likes.  And my youngest, who is just starting to read, has gone on a reading strike lately.  So, there you have it.  It’s always a challenge to find “just-right” books and that has become my life.

My education topics include math, science, literacy, getting reluctant readers reading, art, foreign languages for kids (Spanish and Mandarin Chinese in particular), music and special needs.

My parenting topics include: organization tips, back to school, bullying, family reunion vacations, health and fitness, pets, personal finance, and humor for parents.

I cover children's and young adult books from board books, picture books, easy readers, easy / early chapter books, chapter books, non-fiction, graphic novels, and more. It's my passion to get kids excited about reading.

Bragging rights
My kids are 1/2 Korean, 1/4 Chinese and 1/4 Japanese. This is unusual because all three nationalities historically hate each other. Love conquers all!

We were disappointed with their Chicken Noodle soup. Should be a staple that they nail. We like the soup at Barry's Deli better.

We broke a bowl here once and they were not too happy. I don't think I would bring my kids until they are a little older and can refrain from being too squirrelly.
