I found more animals here than at Washington zoo. It is cleaner more informative and supported by admission price and donations not the government. They have a live nativity at Christmas with "Mary, Joseph and babyJesus. Choirs sing, all in all a wonderful experience. Free of charge. Their gift to the community.

Starting with the positive. This visit takes place in late May. Babies every where!!! Cheetahs, camel, hogs, giraffe. Best if you arrive at opening cooler, active animals, and less crowds. The highlight you get to feed the animals. Okay now the not so positive but not horrible comments. This is a zoo that truly caters to young children not really to adults. Unless you have children the zoo will only take a couple of hours not an all day location. When you pull in to the zoo it feels like you are entering a private home, a little weird. I highly suggest you bring hand wipes or sanitizer because not a single sanitizer dispenser was filled. So after you feed the cute animals you truly need a wash.

I have been to zoos all across the US, and I thought this was a good one. I don't understand the reviews about small enclosures and animals in danger. I thought the opposite. Never smelled anything bad except in the bat/sloth house, and that is not avoidable. Loved feeding a juvenile giraffe, who adored having his head scratched. This is not the national zoo with every animal imaginable, but it was definitely worth going.

Best zoo I've been to because it was not crowded, and had every animal I can think of (besides a wombat but they probably have that too). The animals all seem very well taken care of and a majority of them had ample space to roam around. If I had to say something bad, it would be that the windows were not kept very clean and there wasn't a variety of food. Pack a lunch and bring some water!

I love visiting the zoo! They have a remarkable variety of animals in very natural habitats. The animals must be happy there based on the babies we see every time we go!

Today was my first and last visit to the metro richmond zoo. It's was by far the smelly-ist zoo I've been to. Probably because they sell animal food and its thrown to animals all day. Some animals were not at all interested in eating it so the food just sits all over the ground or the ones that do eat it had a lot more poo in their enclosures. The coolest part was being able to get so close and pet the giraffes! And feed them too! If it wasn't for that today's trip would have been a complete bust! The chimps were interesting too one had a great personality. The little trolly ride was ok too. It's a very small zoo with not as large of variety of animals as I'd expect. Definitely not worth the 30 dollars I paid for just my daughter and myself. Also I expected to see a lot more zoo staff around the zoo to talk about the animals. Not impressed...

I love it! The animals come in so many varities and colors, not to mention the rides are fun and almost never have a long wait! It is the perfect place for kids, especialy the parakeets and the zoo train! If you are planning to have an interactive day packed with animals, here is the place to do that!
