Been coming to Key West for years, my first time here....WILL NOT BE MY LAST!!!! Easily one of the best hotel expierences I've ever had. Location is FANTASTIC!!! Rooms are GREAT and very CHARMING!!! Staff is very welcoming and friendly. The property is perfect Key West! Already looking towards my next visit to Merlins Guesthouse!!!

I'm surprised to see such high ratings for this place. Staff was fine and location couldn't be better but don't expect much. Breakfast consisted of coffee, bagels, English muffins and cereal. After a few days it got old and found ourseleves venturing off to Duval Street for breakfast. The pool was a oversized hottub. But once I saw the local cat drinking from it, it's appeal went away. We went for the more inexpensive room and it had no closet, no iron (you can get from staff), mattress was saggy, and tv did not work. Overall, if you lookin for a cheap place to crash at night after a long day of sightseeing, then this place will do just fine. However, don't have high expectations and you won't be disappointed.

My husband and I chose Key West for our honeymoon spot. We spent a week there...and loved our stay at the Merlin Guesthouse. Personally, the quaint yet contemporary feel to the place was really inviting for us. Yes, it has an a/c unit...and ours worked just fine. The bed was comfy, the facilities were functioning, the staff was incredibly kind and helpful...no complaints. It felt like "home" the whole time we were there. LOVED it. We spent one, late, evening in the pool, relaxing. It's not a large pool to do laps in or anything ridiculous...it was perfect to relax and enjoy the ambiance of where we were...so far from Dallas...and so different. We did a ton of walking...and on the 4th day we finally rented bikes... On our last day, our flight wasn't until 7 pm...the staff was so kind to allow us an additional hour before we vacated the room, itself, at "checkout"...and then they allowed us to keep our luggage in the office under their supervision while we spent the last afternoon in Key West doing souvenir shopping. It was perfect. Rates were fantastic...we really lucked out getting married at the end of September and honeymooning directly after the wedding. We left for Key West the morning after our wedding. It was a great time (not too crowded) to spend in Key West as honeymooners.

When we arrived and found just how close this was to the heart of Duval, we were ecstatic. Upon checking in to our King Suite, we found a few unexpected issues: 1. an air conditioning unit way too small for the space provided. 2. a very warm pool (you don't expect a bath-warm pool in Florida on a hot summer day when your A/C isn't working) 3. a termite issue apparent on our bathroom counter The room was easily above 90 degrees. My wife and I would not have been able to sleep in this room. A resort of this caliber in Key West should have great air conditioning. This was a window unit that clearly wasn't working well anyway. We initially reported this and were asked to stick it out. We tried jumping in the pool to cool off and found that it was warm, so it didn't help our situation. Once we discovered the termite issue, we demanded another room and were accomodated in another King Suite that was absolutely spectacular. The rest of our stay was much better. With those negative things out of the way, the common areas had a very private and secluded feel, and the property had a nice charm. The front desk staff really made this experience for us (Thank you Stefan). I would say that this is the type of place where you need to speak up if you're dissatisfied. If you have some patience and the fortitude to ask for what you want/need, you'll probably have a great time here. (We recommend room 11)

Linda, our Merlin asst. manager, Cindy our Merlin Guesthouse hotel manager and Diana Nyad at Smather's Beach this morning for the one year celebration of Diana's historic Cuba-Key West swim last Labor Day. Diana received an Honorary Conch certificate and a bronze plaque from Art In Public Places, which will be enhanced with a statue next year. Cindy, Linda and our entire Merlin team hosted Diana and her team during all of the attempts she made and have been part of her emotional support and refuge while in Key West. Great morning for all of them!!

What a great shot by Andy Newman of swimmers and kayakers around Alligator Reef Lighthouse which is 4 miles off the Florida Keys shoreline. There is lots of sunshine outside and it's a beautiful day for a swim. Now I'm inspired!!
