STAY AWAY FROM BRUNCH Before I even get into that, earlier that day I called and asked if they offered bottomless mimosas and the girl that answered the phone said yes. We got to the restaurant sat down and when I asked about the bottomless mimosas they told us they didn't offer it anymore. I walked out the restaurant to call again thinking I miss heard but the girl that answered the phone AGAIN said that they offered it so I'm assuming that they just want your business and they will tell you what you want to hear. The brunch So the brunch was $28 they told us they will bring out 3 courses ranging from pancakes to lamb chops, my friend and I decided to order that at the $28 price each of us. They brought a plate with 2 pancakes on it and we were told that we had to split the plate so we each ate 1 pancake, the lamb chops are small more for children again we had to split each eating 1 chop and the other portions of food were small as well more like a sample platter. So if you enjoy quality of small portions then this place is for you. When it was time to pay my friend was charged for a salad that she never received, I complained about the mimosa issue and the manager took off the 2 dollar soda I ordered. My friend paid cash when he received his change he only got his dollar bills he was owed the manager forgot to also give his coins.

The food here is amazing, but the prices are extremely steep and the plates are tiny. If you want enough food for 5 people, you have to end up getting two of the same dish. The lambchops were delicious, but it was $46 for 5 chops and they were gone in 30 seconds.

Twelve of us came here for a team dinner and everyone was beyond impressed by the food. With a menu designed by Jose Garces, I wasn't surprised. We did the baseline tasting menu and there was more than enough food for everyone. Plates were well-paced and the variety was exceptional. Better yet, the waiter made sure to provide vegetarian specific dishes for the one person at the table who keeps kosher. The overall cost isn't cheap and the ambiance is a little lacking but the food is excellent and if you're at a nearby hotel, this is the best option in the area. #Chicago #JoseGarces #BusinessDinner

The goat meatballs are not lile regular simple meatballs. Are excellent!!!! From the chesse i have a complaint: they describe it as sheep chese and blah blah blah. Dont fall on that. Is just manchego with mermelade. Skip it and try the meats or the lobster tapas. Better choise. A little overpriced but service was good. Quality too! Vc

OMG such a great place & most delish and flavor-able food! Try the rose sangria, the bacon wrapped figs, tomato roasted focaccia, butternut squash pasta dish. All amazing and really out of this world! I'll be back next time I'm in Chicago! xoxo

The food was good, but left me a little hungry despite ordering the suggested amount of plates for two. In comparison to Baba Reeba, you're definitely getting less food for more money, but it's also a little higher caliber. They threw in a free dessert for my birthday, but declined to accept my Foursquare offer for $1.99 Sangria which they said was "oonly a seasonal offer" (with no mention of expiration on Foursquare) - kind of a bad business practice, in my opinion. I was expecting a nostalgic dining experience after having spent a semester in Barcelona, but this fell a little short.

Merkat is simply one of the best restaurants I've ever experienced. The military has taken me around the world, and I've dined at fine restaurants from Mumbai to Manhattan. Nothing comes close to the flavors and pure shock and awe of the flavors presented at Merkat. The experience is like the world's best fireworks display, except with flavors. The ooohs and ahhhhs your tastebuds will enjoy are simply without equal. Since moving in Chicago in May 2014, I've been to Merkat four times, two just in the last week alone. I took clients and colleagues to dinner, and they were absolutely thrilled with the meal. If you are staying the Renaissance Blackstone, there's no reason why you shouldn't be dining at Merkat. It's in the lobby. I highly suggest the Chorizo from the "Carnes" menu and the Fig and Ham Salad. These are packed with flavor, and they'll make your eyes roll back in your head. Because this is a Tapas restaurant, your order will be staggered. Order 3-4 items per person, and the magic just happens every 10 minutes. Remember the fireworks display. Just when you think you've seen/tasted the best thing, the waiter arrives with another dish that'll blow your doors off. Yes, it isn't cheap, but, good lord, it's so worth it. The staff is great, the atmosphere is terrific, and you'll have an experience that cannot be beat. Jose Garces is an amazing chef, and I'm happy I can enjoy his menu anytime I'm downtown.
