One of our pest control specialist from the Hacienda Heights area was recently dispatched over to a residential home nearby.
The homeowner had called saying that they have had issues with mice in their home for the past few weeks.
They were puzzled as to why there were so many... After closer investigation, we found that there were a lot of holes and crevices that were never closed off outside their home.
During this time of year when the air is warm, rodents will look at your home as a place of refuge and a place for them to grow their numbers.
This next article will help you prevent this from happening. If you still find your home infested with pests, give the friendly professionals here at Mercado and Sons Pest Control Service a call.

Here is an interesting article that we just found that talks about why pest control services are so important to #Business owners.
Here is a short paragraph from the article linked below. "Clearly homeowners will want to keep their homes free from pests for hygienic reasons. But when it is a business that has an infestation, it is a legal requirement as well.
Once a rumor starts that there have been bugs and pests seen in a business, it will start to affect business and this will be even worse if the organisation is involved in food preparation.
It is not only when pests are seen at the premises that problems arise, but also if anything gets sent out in a parcel."

Do you live in an apartment and have pest issues?
Most of the articles and things we post here are related to houses, like how to keep pest out, how to prevent new pest from coming in, and how to exterminate pest if they are in your home.
We thought we would switch it up and share an article talking about these things but for your apartment!
Living in an apartment generally affords many people the ability to live, work and play without having to travel too far.
With a shorter commute and easy access to restaurants, grocery stores and shops, it is an attractive living option to many Americans.
And, because of the multifamily nature of apartment buildings, you tend to share a lot with your neighbors.
You may share noise through the floor or walls, smells of a neighbor’s dinner wafting down the hall, you may even be that super nice neighbor that shares a cup of sugar. But did you know you could also share pests?

Squirrels, are they friend or foe?!
We recently finished up a job taking care of a squirrel issue in the Alhambra /Rowland Heights area.
Most people think of squirrels as cute fuzzy animals, but they can be a real issue to some homes.
Often referred to as nuisance wildlife, squirrels present their own unique set of dangers when it comes to their interaction with humans as they can become aggressive when they feel frightened or threatened.
While people should be cautious year-round, squirrels tend to be more of an issue in fall and winter as the weather becomes colder and they look for a place to stay warm.
During these months, our homes become an ideal shelter for squirrels, and this can be a problem, as squirrels will gnaw at wires, insulation and damage walls.

Have you ever wondered about the science behind fireflies? Like why are they called fireflies? Why do they light up, things like that?
Click the link below to read the full article that explains all about this. Here is a short paragraph from the article linked below.
They’re actually beetles.
Fireflies are nocturnal members of the Lampyridae family. The name comes from the Greek “lampein,” which means to shine.
Oh, the irony! Some fireflies are diurnal, but they typically don’t glow. Most fireflies are winged, which distinguishes them from other luminescent insects of the same family, often referred to as glowworms. The name “glowworm” can indicate many different species, including fireflies.

Check out this article that was just shared with us after we finished a flea and tic control service in the pomona/Ontario area.
It talks about Cicasa Swarms the southeast this year! Here is a short paragraph from the article linked below.
How can periodical cicadas be identified?
"They are easily identifiable by their striking black bodies, red eyes and red wing veins. Males will also produce a distinct loud buzzing noise that they use to attract female mates. They are often incorrectly referred to as locusts even though they are unrelated."
Where do periodical cicadas make their mark?
"Areas populated with mature trees should expect to see the most cicadas. They will remain above ground for about a month to reproduce, before laying their eggs on tree branches and dying.
Each female cicada can lay between 400 and 600 eggs, meaning populations can be enormous. The offspring fall to the ground after hatching and burrow in the soil until they re-emerge 13-17 years later. Once above ground, the periodical cicadas feed on a wide variety of deciduous plants and shrubs."

Here is another article that was just shared with us from another pest control service right here in the San Gabriel Valley. It talks about 5 tips for preparing your home or building for fumigation! Here are a few of the tips.
Sit down with the pest control company you will be working with and review the information on the fumigant that will be used so you have an understanding of how it works, and what will need to be done once the process is completed. Ask for a checklist of “To-do’s” and follow it.
