"Sell more advertising with less work. Selling transactions, clicks, impressions and listings is old school. What you want is SEA: Scarcity, Exclusivity and Alignment. Boost your scarcity and exclusivity, and save constant effort, by selling sponsorships packages of content categories to one advertiser. The money rolls in but you don’t have to keep finding new advertisers every week or month."

How does the Apple Newsstand stack up against such competition as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Google, and Zinio?
Even the lowest digital newsstand remit is better than the olden days. Just a few short years ago, magazine publishers were thrilled down to their toes to keep 18-40% of sales from news agencies. When Don ran an online newsstand, 18% was the average new remit order for the 1,400 titles there. And some publishers earned absolutely nothing from sales from the agencies they dealt with.

Publishers don’t give away hundreds of thousands of words for fun. We do it so that we can build lists of loyal customers, who we’ll continue to serve free content in the hopes that one day they’ll buy something.

And they often do.
Imagine you own a landscaping company. You cut lawns, trim shrubs, design landscapes and you even shovel in the winter. Now imagine you throw a dinner party where your brother brings home his new girlfriend. This is the tenth girl in 10 years who has sat at your dinner table, so you assume that you may never see the lovely woman again who we'll call Sarah. After dinner, Sarah mentions that she just bought a house and the yard is just awful...
