❝ A man came to me a week ago to get his bag repaired. I started working on it and told him that I'll take Rs. 50 for it. He said okay and went to do some of his other shopping. It took me half an hour to repair his bag. He came back and again asked me about the service charge amount. I repeated that it's Rs. 50 but he started arguing and shouting and started saying that 'you are looting people, you take 3 times the cost of actual work' I humbly requested him to pay me my wage and if he doesn't want to, it's okay I won't take a single penny but please don't make a scene. He threw a Rs. 10 note at my face and went away angrily. Whenever something like this happens, it saddens me. These people can buy shoes worth Rs. 5 thousand from any market but won't pay Rs. 50 to a cobbler. It hurts their self-respect if people like me ask for their rightful labor. I wish people would think unselfishly for once.❞

A realistic look into the #NaMo sarkar's one year blitzkrieg!
Candidate Modi generated hope at home and scepticism abroad. For Prime Minister Modi, who completes a year in office on May 26, the reverse may be true.

Story

more than just a name..
Introduction

I don’t have an autobiography to post. People who know me, know me well and I don’t need to write up a lot here. And now the question is about people who don’t know me. Um………. that sounds interesting. However I’m not a bigshot that people around here should be curious enough to know about me.

Well then.. Why do I need to write about me. The reason is quite simple – the page should have some content. So here we go.

I am Melvin Jose Thannickal. My name is Melvin, Jose is my father’s name and that rather unfamiliar sounding name is my family name (or rather house name as it is known in the place I come from). I was born on 16th August 1986 and brought up in Kerala – a small, beautiful green strip at the south of India – often referred as ‘God’s own country’ ( well…that can be disputed). I grew up in a village nested in the folds of the western ghats in the district of Idukki (Now, that is a really beautiful place and I’m not ready to dispute on that). So to say, I grew up in a place pretty secluded from the complexities of the world. I did my schooling there and that's all the time I spend at home.

Later I joined St.Joseph’s College Bangalore for my secondary education. World opened up – it was like being pulled out of a well and put in the wide vast Sahara desert. Spent some two years in Bangalore and at completion of that something happened which we can talk about when you see my so called handsome face. Whatever that be, good or bad, that was a life I lived with myself and genuine human beings– men and women who were merely men and women, who lived in a world where Facebook and Instagram hadn't masked reality and Google couldn't get you all the answers. Another Life changing decision and I landed up back in Karnataka, but this time in Mangalore. Into the world of uncertainty – I found myself sitting in one of those classrooms of St. Aloysius College trying to do my graduation in Computer Application at a time when all I knew about computers was that they were a lot advanced than Televisions.

Relocation again! As part of my graduation I worked on a live project at a small firm at Cochin, once again in the same world of uncertainty. While at there to my surprise I designed and developed a Campus Automation System. I myself am not sure what I did with it. I had no idea where I was headed, I was confused and I managed to do that to my teachers too! Every time I came up with a presentation I had this feeling that my invigilators where either impressed or confused. On one of those fine mornings I got back to Mangalore for some work and someone told me that there was a campus recruitment drive that day. I decided to give it a try. Since I had not come prepared to attend an interview I walked into the interview with a borrowed shirt and shoes. Lady luck was with me and I landed a job with ITC Infotech.

At ITC, I worked for around a year and half as Offshore Windows Domain Administrator. Currently I'm working as the Lead of a team doing what IT guys would call Remote System Management. My profile as per the company records is “Developer” but I’m trying to figure out the stuff that I’m developing. Not a great job and not what I wanted to do but I'm doing it great - I really like those nerve breaking situations which literally drains you out and gives you a sound sleep when you get home. Makes me feel like those days of working at our farm where you are dead tired, when food tastes awesome and sleep is a heavenly experience.

At present I'm toying with a lot if ideas because I think I can contribute more to the world I'm living in if I'm on my own rather than letting someone dictate what work I should be doing. But, laziness is a wide river to cross! All that happens… happens for good. So I spend my days………………

That,s all for now.. expect changes when there be changes……

Good food at a normal bar's price. Place is clean and the food is really good. A little noisy and can't be compared to a pub. Its a better bar !!
