Homemade graham crackers!
There are few things more delicious in life than simple buttery homemade graham crackers. I’ve been making homemade graham crackers for my kids for years and years, and they ask for them often. Homemade graham crackers are essentially a buttery crisp cookie that you can cut into just about any shape you like. I taught my daughter how to spell her when she was tiny by making homemade graham crackers with her and cutting out the letters in her name...

Extra thick pumpkin cake!!! Yes, Please!
I’m a huge fan of dense, sweet, moist, and extra thick cakes; add pumpkin and a little pumpkin pie spice to that combo and I’m sold. This extra thick pumpkin cake is the stuff my dreams are made of! I saw this recipe on my friend Carrian’s site and just knew that I had to make it. The recipe is different from any I’ve seen and I just knew it would be a good one. You mix together all kinds of butter, sugar, six eggs (six!), pumpkin, evaporated mil...

Nutella for life!
Raise your hand if you are a Nutella lover! Both hands are over my head and I’m waving them like a crazy person. Nutella is a dangerous thing to keep in my house because I just can’t walk away from it. My kids love it too. My very favorite way to eat it is straight out of the jar on a pretzel. Seriously, Nutella and pretzels is the best sweet and salty combination ever. I’m celebration World Nutella Day with this AMAZING Nutella S’mores Bar recip...

This post is making me so very happy. I was feeling like I didn’t have much help to offer you in the kitchen when it comes to Thanksgiving recipes because I don’t have a roasted turkey, stuffing, whole ham, or mashed potato recipe on my blog. Not one! But the more I got to thinking, the more I realized that I have TONS of recipes that you might really love to enjoy with your friends and family this holiday season. I have collected some of my favo...

GIFT GUIDE FOR THE PARENT WHO LOVES READING TO THEIR KID(S)
I love reading to my kids. As I was pondering the kinds of gift guides I would share with you all this year I just knew that I wanted to do a reading centered one. I saw a little picture on facebook the other day of a bookstore front that had these words painted on the window, “There’s no app to replace your lap. Read to your kid!”. I LOVED it. It is so very true, and I know you fun parents and grandparents who enjoy my blog feel just the same wa...

Introduction

Hello. I’m Melissa. My blog, Bless this Mess, is an honest picture of a happy small town life. You’ll find posts about raising backyard chickens, remodeling our house while living in the mess and lots and lots of family-friendly recipes, dessert included. When it comes to food I love crusty bread, Mexican, boiled eggs, all things chocolate, and dill pickles. When it comes to blogging I love meeting new people, so pop over and say hello when you have a minute.
