I find being a parent the ultimate spiritual practice. And the lessons my boys have taught me in their first 5 months of life are applicable to anyone, parent or not. My latest for +The Huffington Post

Happy Thanksgiving, my friends! Here's one of my favorites blogs that went viral 3 years ago, but the message remains the same: FEAR LESS, LVOE MORE! Enjoy!
By giving to others, we heal our own wounds. We become happier, more fulfilled, and even live longer. So yes, fear less: take on your demons, push yourself past your limits, be brave and bold....

Are you looking for holiday gifts that have meaning and purpose? Moeloco, makers of inspirational and beautifully designed flip-flops, will donate one pair of shoes to former street and slum kids in India through HOPE Foundation for every pair you purchase! My latest blog for +The Huffington Post

Wow. This is a fantastic movie: Low budget, simple storyline, highly disturbing social commentary on our love for violence, the role of media, and our predominant culture of fear. Indie filmmaking at its best. Jake Gyllenhal's performance is flawless. Never would have seen it without hearing +KCRW's glowing review, easy to miss in the midst of hype around Interstellar and other big budget Hollywood blockbusters. But- prepare to be disturbed.

Do you have a pretty great life, yet frequently find yourself feeling unfulfilled, stressed out, anxious or depressed?

Most of us believe we should have daily rituals to stay physically healthy: exercise, eat right, and get enough sleep. But when it comes to our emotional health, we often don't have a similar daily routine for "staying fit."

Laura Coe's book "Emotional Obesity" offers guidance on letting go of unhelpful "junk food thoughts" and finding your way to greater happiness. My latest blog for +The Huffington Post
In her new book Emotional Obesity, Laura Coe argues that our culture teaches us from a young age to "get over" our feelings. The result is that we end up carrying their excess weight around with us throughout our lives....

What is #GivingTuesday? It's about combatting consumerism by putting your spending dollars towards causes and people rather than things!

Give the gift of HOPE this holiday season! Join me in sponsoring a child through the excellent non-profit +HOPE Foundation. For just the cost of a Starbucks a day, you can provide a former street kid/ slum dweller with a loving home, clothing, medical care, and an education. I've been sponsoring Rama (pictured below) since 2004. A wonderful, rewarding, easy way to share holiday JOY and give back ‪#‎GivingTuesday‬.
This past December, I returned to Kolkata for the first time since 2004, this time with my husband, Kiran. Here is our story -- Kiran's photographs, my words -- of poverty, inspirational people, and, ultimately, hope....

Just because this is a celebratory season doesn't mean your feelings of loss for loved ones who have passed away will dissipate... In fact, you may experience their absence even more keenly over the holidays.
In my latest for +The Huffington Post, I offer advice, wisdom and tips for coping with your grief over the holidays from HealGrief.org founder Fran Solomon.
The holiday season can be a particularly difficult time for bereaved individuals because it is supposed to be a celebratory occasion when family and friends come together with great joy... But for those in mourning, it often brings home the realizati...

Architect of Waking Dreams. New York Times Bestselling Author, Speaker, and Life Coach
Introduction
I have been a freelance author and editor of non-fiction health and wellness, spirituality, and psychology books, magazine articles, and blogs for the past 15 years. I contribute a weekly column to the Huffington Post title, "The Life Out Loud." My work has been published in Self Magazine, Stanford Magazine, Forbes.com, MSNBC, MindBodyGreen, BoingBoing, and a variety of other leading print & online magazines.

Having recently made the move to fiction as an Architect of Waking Dreams, I am currently developing a TV series, two screenplays, and a sci-fi/fantasy Young Adult trilogy in collaboration with my husband, filmmaker Kiran Ramchandran.

I love working part-time as a life coach, helping my clients achieve their loftiest goals. I have a BA and MA with honors and distinction, Phi Beta Kappa, from Stanford University, both in psychology. In addition, I earned an MA in Counseling Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute, for which I completed a year of supervised therapy with middle school students and their families.

From January 2010- June 2011, I worked as a social media strategist for the Stanford Alumni Association, engaging our alumni via newly-established Facebook and Twitter accounts. I also do some yoga teaching on the side, and have an Ana Forrest yoga teacher certification.

I am a passionate, authentic person who believes in making the world a better place on a daily basis (through smiles, hugs, and supporting people), and in a big way (eg, serving on the board of HOPE Foundation; traveling to Haiti to volunteer and leading Karma Yoga retreats with Surf for Life.)

My mantra is: FEAR LESS, LOVE MORE!
