For anyone who's been interested in possibly snagging a copy of "Hey, America, Your Roots Are Showing," there's a sample (including table of contents, foreword by Henry Louis Gates, Jr., and a chunk of the first chapter about my work with the Army) here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/171520154/Hey-America-Your-Roots-Are-Showing

My good friends Brendan and Marnie Farrell were kind enough to share the following with me.  As you may or may not be aware - particularly those of you with Irish heritage, 2014 marks the...

Having researched 1,005 Army MIAs to date, can appreciate this perspective of JPAC - 'Tender mercies' of MIA accounting http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/opinion/bs-ed-mia-policy-20140323,0,6245462.story
"Show me the manner in which a nation cares for its dead and I will show you with mathematical exactness the tender mercies of its people."

Genealogy by Barry?
#genealogy     #copyright   #splogging
Just received an email from Barry J. Ewell, announcing his new "Genealogy by Barry" blog. "Deseret News" associate Barry J. Ewell is best known for his MyGenShare.com site.

I had a quick look at the new blog. Text such as "is provided as a sampling the resources you will find on MyGenShare.com" suggests at least some of the content is duplicated from MyGenShare, and that suggested some googling was in order.

After randomly googling sentences from some of the many blog posts, which all seem to have been mass-posted between 2014 Mar 1 and 8, I highly doubt that the last two words of the blog's title are accurate.

Example splog and some of its multiple sources

How to take care of vinyl is a curious subject for a genealogy blog, and as an audiophile, I know a few things about it. After googling some sentences, I quickly found the following matches:

Time's running out to bid as this WDYTYA auction will be over in a few hours. Then again, you need to bid at least $2,350! https://www.charitybuzz.com/catalog_items/493301

So here's where I was yesterday - at the Irish America Hall of Fame induction event. Really interesting since both Bill O'Reilly and Chris Matthews were inducted. And the amazing Judy Collins sang "Moon Over the Hudson," based on her Irish roots. Wonderful event and delighted to have had the opportunity to attend! http://irishamerica.com/2014/03/celebrating-the-2014-irish-america-hall-of-fame/

Am beyond delighted with Steve Seidman's work! We had a tricky, full-wall-sized map to hang on a slightly lopsided wall. Steve graphed it out to accommodate for this and other quirks and it came out perfectly. He's responsive, reliable and works super-fast as well. The experience has left me wondering what other walls we might be able to tackle!
