How to Take Care of People with Alzheimer’s

When the people we love are associated with Alzheimer’s Disease, it is one of those points in life that breaks our hearts. When they forget us – who we are, how much they mean to us. Some of us have gone through the point that they become terrified and scared of us. They no longer recognize us.

In caregiving, it is important to always be mindful of their well-being, regardless of the circumstances.

Here are a few tips on taking care of our loved ones with Alzheimer’s Disease:

-Help them have a daily routine. It is not wrong to ask for help from family and friends of our clients and patients, this will also be a benefit to avoid burnouts.
-Always keep the visitors minimal. It is important that our clients or patients do not feel overwhelmed by the presence of all the people. Also, avoid noise and clutter in the room.
-Always assure the client or the patient that we are there for them, we are not going to leave them. This reduces the risks of agitation.

Important Caregiving Tips

Caregiving is not just a profession. Caregiving is having the chance to help people, save people, and change people’s lives. Caregivers are given hearts of compassion and devotion to give the care and the love to those who need them. It is important that as caregivers, we also know how to address the needs of the people we take care of.

Here are some tips on caregiving for people we cherish:

-We should not argue with our patients and clients. It is important that we remain patient and calm. It is better to agree with them and help them understand their needs in the perspective of their health.

-In administering and managing their medications, always remember to take good care of their demands. It is always best to consider how they feel. Do not command them, but instead – motivate and inspire them.

-It is not uncommon for our clients and patients to do mistakes or have failed at something. Instead of condescending their actions, always encourage and appreciate what they do. We are all just human. It is best to understand what they are going through.
