We recently visited this bar for dinner with our family, after our Christmas festivities. We know a little bit of the history, and wanted to check it out, mostly based on that. We were very pleasantly surprised. Once inside, it was so much bigger than we expected. It was packed, but we only waited less than 10 mins for a table. Once seated, we were greeted very quickly and our drink orders were taken. Our food order was taken and delivered very quickly also. Our only complaint was that the music was too loud. We were screaming across the table to talk to each other and the wait staff. Now, we are typically not opposed to loud music in general, but it was REALLY LOUD. Overall, we had an enjoyable time and will definitely stop in again.

SS: Thanks for stopping by. We do get crowded and louder this time of year. In general, we tend to get busier, louder and younger as the day gets later so for a quieter visit, try lunch or early in the day, a weekday, early in the week. Hope to see you again soon!

The location is obviously great, but the service and food stand up to the setting. Pricing is honestly unbelievable for a place like this as well. Enjoy the food, and the extra coin in your pocket!

Service was good, server did not notice plate was missing garlic bread. Do NOT get German sausage, I expected better quality meat and flavor.

David: Sorry your didn't get your garlic bread (although hope you did mention it and get it) and didn't love your German sausage. But appreciate your stopping by and hope to see you again.

McGillian's is a solid pub with some great history and a very cool space. It is Philly's oldest bar, which adds a very cool element. Service is good. On the downside, the beer selection is really average. They try hard to push their own brews by surrounding them with very mediocre local beers. Food is good but not great. The German Sausage Platter is pretty good. Finally, the music is pumping really loud. I like loud music -- in the right bar -- but it seems out of place in a 150 year old pub.

Hi Brooke: Thank you for stoping by. Sorry you weren't able to find beers you like. We do serve 30 beers on tap, including many hard to find local crafts. Consider giving the 6 beer sampler a try, you'll get to try full glasses of unfamiliar beers, inexpensively, and perhaps find some new favs. Also, try coming by for lunch in the afternoon when the tavern is quieter. We do tend to get younger and louder as the night gets later. Hope you'll give us another try! Cheers!

Great place to drink... not so much to eat. The beer selection was amazing and the wait staff really nice. The food was just ok and a bit bland, but definitely cheap so you can afford to buy more beer!

Always a good time!!! Food is excellent and reasonably priced. The ambience really makes the experience. Looking forward to having my 42nd Birthday Dinner with my family there on Sunday afternoon. I hope the fire is burning.
