Making comics for a living is nearly impossible, but graphic design is an amazing way to support your art. I've had a great career doing something I love that also informs my comics.

Like SpongeBob? Like Gary? LOVE COMICS?

I'm in the latest issue of SpongeBob Comics, which comes out tomorrow. This is the first time I was able to draw our spongy friend, along with good ol' Gary in the first ever All Gary Issue! Available at finer comic shops everywhere. You can read more here: http://maxriffner.com/news/new-comic-in-spongebob-comics-48/

I think we are in the middle of a renaissance for the independent comic book. I couldn't be more happy or excited about it either. It feels like the 90s all over again.

I'm so excited about it that I am thinking about throwing my hat in the ring also.

Is design a service? Or is it art? Both.
Designers fresh out of school often learn the hard way that design isn't an art in the work world; it's a service. But that doesn't mean designers can't find the art in design ever again.

Creative Director +Max Riffner shares his thoughts on designing for a profession and how to keep art a part of your design work.

Now that I'm feeling stronger, I'm starting to get back to work. But I have to change my comic process. This is the first in a series of posts detailing that journey with my next graphic novel.
