Google didn't fix anything... Hey, at least they changed the name/brand/look of their local business product a few times (to confuse everyone)...

As a local search engine, Yahoo has long been the equivalent of an '80s hair band, still squeaking along decades after its heyday. For the last few years, its only real use to your local visibility was that it still ranked well in Google for brand-name searches.

Reported on Friday. Removed on Monday. Yelp is winning!

This was a part of an unjustified (saw docs to prove it) negative review attack on a client - both on Yelp and Google.
Fortunately, attacker didn't think using nationality and hate speech in reviews was a bad idea. That definitely helped to classify it as "against review content guidelines" category and was easy to report.
Yelp took care of it.
Nothing from Google yet.

Nice one! . Google usually takes a lot of time. I reported a negative review for a client and took about 3 months, and multiple submissions to get it removed.

Good news!
Google now supports JSON-LD for the generation of review and product rich snippets, types previously requiring microdata or RDFa markup.

Good question from +Greg Sterling here. Why do people say you must pay to get better rating? I hear the same about Google/AdWords all the time. And it was true for BBB in the past (backed up by facts/evidence).

Is this "reputation?" Legacy?
Where did it originate?
Wish I knew Yelp's history enough to see the connection...

+Greg Sterling, you've been in this industry for a while. Maybe you can elaborate and write a story - maybe you recall the "moment" that triggered this reputation/legacy about Yelp? Was there such thing? Major business decision or direction change by Yelp?

15 Smart Things Most SEOs Never Do

I've seen SEOs do all kinds of dumb things for clients. Far less often do I see them follow some wise practices that can help them get better results, and with less heartache. My suggestions also can help you if you are your own SEO person. This may have a slight bent toward local search (as you ...

Study Shows Perfect 5 Star Review Ratings Aren’t Best

The old saying that "perfect is too good to be true" applies to online reviews as well it turns out. A recent review study between PowerReviews and Northwestern University surfaced that a 5 star rating wasn't the most trusted by consumers to purchase a product. Consumers displayed more trust and…

Wow! Great food & experience! Too bad I didn't visit here before - it's next door but I prejudged because restaurants were in and out every year at this location in my neighborhood. I guess I didn't want to attach to another fly-by-night business here. But this is not one of those. Exceptional service, clean & comfortable interior and great, authentic food. Totally worth a quick lunch break or visit with the family. I'll certainly be back!

Enjoyed a few chats here with local friends. Comfy and cool coffee house during hot summer days. Great place to get loaded with caffeine and read, work on a project, chat with a friend or have a meeting (all business meetings should be in places like these rather than boring office meeting rooms). Personnel was super sweet and responsive both times I was there. Made a great suggestion when I needed one. Their pies are great! Will certainly stop by here when I'm back in town!

First impression was - what is this nice Italian restaurant doing in the middle of nowhere (in a good way)?: no city center, not a huge intersection, in the middle of the residential area. Beautiful view on the lake and mountain Rainier on the clear sky day. Amazing experience. They have local musicians on Saturday evenings. Very loyal customer base too - my wife and I were there about 10 times now and I saw same groups of people there a few times. There's absolutely no question I'd go here instead of mainstream "Italian" restaurants (I'm looking at you, Olive G.; we never went back to mainstream after visiting Al Lago). Fantastic customer service! Great food & its selection! I can't even name my favorite - I tried most dishes by now and don't have 1-2 favorites anymore. Not a single time that we weren't happy with our dining experience here. We choose to drive extra 10 minutes up to Bonney Lake to visit the place. Well worth it!

Best donuts in town! I love that place! Either getting them on Sunday afternoon or sitting down in the late evening - one of few places open in Auburn after 10. Better get donuts early though - they often sell out. But, unlike Safeway, they make fresh donuts during the day, not just in the morning.

Wish I had coffee shop like this within 5 min drive from my house! My wife and I took a random drive to Burien and West Seattle and ended up here based on my friend's recommendation. Glad we did. Great barista! Trying to figure out what we wanted and seeing others order before and after us - barista knew locals and what they wanted, was super polite, asked about our day, etc. Then we just enjoyed our time there. Nice house! Relaxed atmosphere. Inside and outside seating. Great for chats, great for quietly working on a project on your laptop (free Wi-Fi), great for business chats/interviews. I'd have local business meet up here (and they offer that as an option) instead of boring office space or rental room . Great coffee! Highly recommended!

We took a ferry trip to Bainbridge Island for the first time last Saturday. Wanted to try something different & Marche french style stood out on the list of restaurants. It's nicely situated too with foot traffic & a nice location. Glad we made that choice! We didn't make a reservation (tip: you want to) but were still able to get a nice table by the open kitchen. Just after one visit I can suggest you get a table right by the kitchen, like we did, or on the patio. Modern room & building design with beautiful touches. We felt welcomed from the very start. First by the manager. Then by the chef (I have to admit - that was awesome; we weren't even walking directly by the kitchen; across the room). Jennifer was a fantastic waitress. Another waitress stopped by to check on us as well in casual (not annoying at all) way. Great customer service experience all the way around! It's a fine dining experience. Each dish had its personal touch. Very enjoyable. Portions aren't big but each has an unexpected flavor. My wife and I liked everything we tried. Marche sure was the highlight of our day.
