I wanted my son to learn to play ukelele and had tried other teachers that weren't connecting with my him. I could tell after speaking with Wayne that this experience would be different and after watching a lesson, I wanted to learn to play the ukelele also. He has a gift for engaging children and teaching. I feel like learning to play the ukelele for me will help me to relax more deeply and will be a wonderful thing to share with my son. I highly recommend Wayne, best teacher you can find!

Years ago I read a book called 'The Inner Game of Tennis' by Timothy Gallwey. When Mr. Gallwey was teaching tennis, first he'd have the student try and hit the ball back and forth with him as many times as possible. Usually the beginning student could only do it about one or two times. Then the instructor would ask the student to notice their inner dialog when they missed the ball. It was often a series of self deprecating remarks. Next the instructor would ask the student to clear his mind and simply say "bounce hit, bounce hit". With that simple exercise the student would continue to hit the ball sometimes as many as 45 times without interruption. It was the "Zen" of tennis. Wayne Perry teaches music in much the same way. He helps you take the effort out of it and relax. He showed me that I didn't need to have sore fingers from pressing the strings so hard. Relax. He showed me how to find my own comfortable way to hold my instrument so that both arms and hands were free to play my instrument, with the emphasis being on the word "Play". He encourages one to have fun with it. One session with Wayne has made all the difference in the world for me and I highly recommend him. I told him he should write the book, 'The Tao of Ukulele'. Aloha, Andrea von Botefuhr

"Our experience with Wayne can be described as inspiring. Over the last 5 or 6 years, Wayne has taught all three of our children to play ukulele and guitar. Wayne takes an individual approach to each student and really connects at different levels to make each lesson fun and enjoyable. Each of our children continue to play both at school and at home and we feel blessed to have the gift of music in our household. Wayne has my 9 year old daughter singing and recording CD's , lots of fun and excitement for all. Thanks Wayne!" Brad & Kristina MacArthur

After loosing part of my left hand in a motorcycle accident, I thought my guitar playing days were over. I soon discovered that we are much more adaptable than we know. With determination, innovation, and the relaxed and insightful approach Wayne Perry uses in his teaching, I am steadily building the confidence and skill I need to overcome this disability. With Wayne’s help, I am beginning to once again develop the skills needed to do the thing I love so well. Mahalo Wayne for helping to bring music back into my life.

Wayne is a natural-born musician and teacher. In just 6 short weeks, he transformed my whole guitar-playing technique. He's gifted at simplifying complex ideas. He's a great listener, and a super-quick study at understanding exactly what the individual student needs to focus on. Plus his easy-going nature made every class a joy. Thanks to Wayne, I'm now so much more relaxed when I play. Best of all, I enjoy it more than ever. I'd recommend him to any student at any level. - Annie, Seattle

Wayne is the best; patient and encouraging. Lessons are fun and relevant to the music you like to play. In only a few lessons I learned more than I ever thought possible. I highly recommend him. Thank you Wayne! Thom (Tommy Thunder) Wailea

Aloha Thom, thank you for taking a moment to re-turn visit and leave your warm comments. You mentioned that it's 47 degrees and freezing rain back home in the mainland, but it looks like your recent stay here on Maui is still keeping you plenty warm and sunny! Keep up the great persistence and practice on your guitar, coz I know that when you return next year, you'll be playing plenty of nice, musical Thunder for the tropical raindrops to dance to! :)
