IMPORTANT TECHNICAL BULLETIN: On many vehicles, each ventilation opening (vent) on the dashboard is controlled by a rotary dial, that governs the opening and closing - and sometimes the orientation - of the vent vanes. Some drivers may mistake the vent control dial for the dashboard light dimmer dial. When this happens, the driver will vary the vent dial setting, expecting to see a corresponding variation in the dashboard light brightness. Continued attempts to control the dash light brightness through the vent dial will not produce the desired result, and lead the driver to call the rental agent and report of failure of the dash lights. This can be sometimes accompanied by the driver feeling anger and frustration at this perceived malfunction of the vehicle. Generally this situation arises with a driver whose cognitive abilities are either temporarily or lastingly impaired. The recommended solution is to remove the driver from the vehicle, to prevent any other errors in the use of the vehicle that could lead to injury or damage.
