I have been coming to Maui annually for years and Frank is the man for car rentals. His cars are well maintained, clean, and are always ready and waiting for you when you arrive in Maui. His prices are reasonable. He runs a great business. Frank is the only person I would consider for car rentals on Maui.

Last Thanksgiving week my wife and I needed a vehicle to carry a number of small to large boxes and bulky items needed for a condo on the island. A sudden death in the family meant that I was in another state while trying to arrange transportation on short notice, with a holiday looming. I had not been pleased with the big name rental company I had rented from previously at the airport, so I started looking around and found Frank's Friendly Car Rental on the internet. Frank had a small wagon which ended up working well for what we needed; however, Frank wasn't sure that what he had would be suitable, so he wanted me to call around and be sure, before he would take my reservation and my money. The big company would have taken my money first and asked questions later. I did as he said, I called around but then called Frank right back to book it. The car was nothing to look at but ran well and most importantly, had cold air conditioning. It was waiting for us when we arrived and we headed straight to Costco to load the wagon up for what would be the first of many times throughout our week. It could not have been an easier experience and thanks to Frank, we were able to accomplish everything we needed to accomplish on our trip. So, we are going back again and I just booked another car for our next trip! Thanks Frank!! Aloha!

We have been dealing with Frank and his friendly cars and cannot say enough about both. Frank goes out of his way to make sure you are satisfied and enjoying yourself in paradise. He is always available, prompt in his return calls and an upstanding guy. It makes all the years we come to Maui such a pleasure. Nick and Angela

My girlfriend rented cars from Frank several times and I only heard positive feedback from her. She managed to get all her things done without a hassle and I never had to worry about her. Every time the plans were changing she was able to easily settle everything with Frank and picked me up from the airport late in the evening. Thanks Frank for a memorable reunion and a nice adventure!

Alex, I'm glad that you enjoyed your visit to Maui and that I was able to help in a small way. You are a lucky man!

I have been using Frank’s rental cars for the last 2 years. His cars are both reliable and an affordable option for anybody visiting Maui. I usually use Frank’s cars on extended stays but I would highly recommend his cars for short term use as well. After going to Maui several times I am now pass the days of paying $$$ for an overpriced shiny red convertible. Frank’s cars gets me to all of Maui’s attractions with plenty of money saved, plus you will look like a local instead of sticking out in the typical tourist rental car. I love that the car is waiting in the short term parking lot at arrival in Maui. Although you still have to drive from the Airport to Frank’s location to sign a few papers, I find the process much more efficient than waiting on a rental car bus and the long lines at the rental agencies. I highly recommend Frank’s rental cars and I will continue using him in the future.

Forget about the corporations, rent from the local company who understands your needs and actually cares about you! I have rented from Frank twice and have never been so pleased with any business before. Frank goes far and beyond to deliver what you need at your convenience. Even if you come or leave late he will make it happen for you. For the first time I actually called Frank on his day off without any reservation but he still managed to get a nice car for me that same day. I have never seen businesses being customer oriented to such a degree! I've built a trustworthy relationship with Frank and if I'm on Maui I will rent only from him.

Great cars, most with racks for surfboards at no extra charge. Great friendly "Maui Style" service. Recommend to my island friends when car is in shop for extended work as well as friends who are visiting.

Joseph, it was a pleasure to meet you and your family. I was very happy to be of assistance to you, and would look forward to the opportunity to do it again - but let's hope your car stays out of the shop for a while. Aloha! Frank.

I rent every year from Frankie - he's the best and his cars are great. Easy pickup and dropoff. The cars are waiting in the lot across from baggage claim - just a 50 yard walk. I surf and kite - so the wagons with board racks are great. (straps are included). The cars are clean, in good mechanical shape with AC and stereos. I've rented from others and their not as convenient and Frankie's cars are better. My last trip - I forgot my sunglasses in the car - Frankie sent them to me in Oregon with no charge! Frankie rules!

“Uber, the world’s largest taxi company, owns no vehicles. Facebook, the world’s most popular media owner, creates no content. Alibaba, the most valuable retailer, has no inventory. And Airbnb, the world’s largest accommodation provider, owns no real estate. Something interesting is happening.”

Our biggest competitor on Maui owns no vehicles of its own either. It's a website that pretends to be a real business, and just offers online bookings with discounts on major rentacar-owned vehicles.

Something to consider when renting a car: Do you want to rent from a real, locally-owned business? Or would you rather just get a discount an a major company rental?

Car rental rates on Maui are seasonal, and they're also affected by year-to-year factors. This year they are peaking at about $900 for the week of Christmas. Last year's top car rental rate on Maui, at Christmas time, was almost $100 more, over $1,000. We keep track of rates day-to-day and year-to-year, because, hey, renting cars on Maui is our business.

Customer calls and states he can no longer get into his car. On the scene, it is found that his car keys have been cut clean in half - not broken in lock, not bent and broken, cut clean. Customer states he does not know how such a thing could have happened. Yah, right.

Always check your rental car for unexpected passengers, stowaways, invasive species.

This is really good news for X-mas, for all our customers. When the majors raise their car rental rates, we get better utilization, as more people look for affordable rentacar alternatives. And better rental fleet utilization means we can continue to offer the same fair, low car rental rates for Maui visitors and residents. You asked for it, you got it - or something like that.
Over the weekend of Dec. 19 to Dec. 21, Hertz Global Holdings Inc. announced that it increased U.S. retail prices for all Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty car rentals reserved for pick-up on or after Jan. 1, 2015. This price increase was driven by fleet depreciation increases.

Caller: It says on your website that you require a driver license to rent a car.
Superfrank: Yes sir, that's correct.
Caller: Well I don't really have a driver license. Can I still rent a car anyway?
Superfrank: [long pause]
Caller: Hello?

Be advised that driving on Maui is a full-on contact sport. This car from our rental fleet, carrying four occupants, was creamed at an intersection, by a truck that ran a red light. I have lost count of the accidents and fender-benders my customers have been in - it is a nearly weekly occurrence. But this is the most serious by far, with all four being transported straight to the hospital. It is pure luck there were no fatalities. If you come to Maui, and plan to drive a rental car, please have the best insurance money can buy, because chances are high that you will need it. According to insurance company data, Hawaii has the worst drivers of all the US, with the island of Maui being the worst of all the others.

Continuing with the theme of reptiles and rental cars.... Gecko lizards are everywhere on Maui... yes, even on rental cars.
