I have been using Frank’s rental cars for the last 2 years. His cars are both reliable and an affordable option for anybody visiting Maui. I usually use Frank’s cars on extended stays but I would highly recommend his cars for short term use as well. After going to Maui several times I am now pass the days of paying $$$ for an overpriced shiny red convertible. Frank’s cars gets me to all of Maui’s attractions with plenty of money saved, plus you will look like a local instead of sticking out in the typical tourist rental car. I love that the car is waiting in the short term parking lot at arrival in Maui. Although you still have to drive from the Airport to Frank’s location to sign a few papers, I find the process much more efficient than waiting on a rental car bus and the long lines at the rental agencies. I highly recommend Frank’s rental cars and I will continue using him in the future.

Forget about the corporations, rent from the local company who understands your needs and actually cares about you! I have rented from Frank twice and have never been so pleased with any business before. Frank goes far and beyond to deliver what you need at your convenience. Even if you come or leave late he will make it happen for you. For the first time I actually called Frank on his day off without any reservation but he still managed to get a nice car for me that same day. I have never seen businesses being customer oriented to such a degree! I've built a trustworthy relationship with Frank and if I'm on Maui I will rent only from him.

I rent every year from Frankie - he's the best and his cars are great. Easy pickup and dropoff. The cars are waiting in the lot across from baggage claim - just a 50 yard walk. I surf and kite - so the wagons with board racks are great. (straps are included). The cars are clean, in good mechanical shape with AC and stereos. I've rented from others and their not as convenient and Frankie's cars are better. My last trip - I forgot my sunglasses in the car - Frankie sent them to me in Oregon with no charge! Frankie rules!

When I rent a car (as I do a lot) I am looking for the following characteristics: low cost, reliable, honest and friendly business to rent from, nothing fancy, help when I need it, advice for tripping around in the local area... And now that I have found Frank's Friendly Cars I'm a lifetime! Frank is a great guy and I cannot recommend him highly enough. He was extremely helpful to us and a pleasure to hang out and talk with him. The car we rented was 100% fine and we always felt that if something went wrong mechanically or otherwise that Frank would be there in a pinch. I check out many other car rental sites but my search for the right place in person is over. Frank is da man. You won't be sorry for doing business with him.

Marc, it was a pleasure to meet you and learn about your humanitarian efforts helping so many in need. It's an honor to be able to support you indirectly with a good deal on a rental during your vacation time. Wishing you all the best for the coming year.

We have been dealing with Frank and his friendly cars and cannot say enough about both. Frank goes out of his way to make sure you are satisfied and enjoying yourself in paradise. He is always available, prompt in his return calls and an upstanding guy. It makes all the years we come to Maui such a pleasure. Nick and Angela

My girlfriend rented cars from Frank several times and I only heard positive feedback from her. She managed to get all her things done without a hassle and I never had to worry about her. Every time the plans were changing she was able to easily settle everything with Frank and picked me up from the airport late in the evening. Thanks Frank for a memorable reunion and a nice adventure!

Alex, I'm glad that you enjoyed your visit to Maui and that I was able to help in a small way. You are a lucky man!

A friend and I go to Maui almost every year for windsurfing. Several years ago, we were introduced to Frank by a mutual windsurfing friend. We have been renting from him ever since. We especially like his low prices. This is possible because his cars are older than the national chains, and his off-airport facility avoids airport taxes. The older cars are reliable, and blend in better with the locals, so they do not attract unwanted attention. He provides roof racks for surfing or windsurfing. He will arrange pick-up and drop-off from the airport. Basically, he provides everything we like. Thanks, Frank!

RUDE! I asked a simple question and he asked if I read it on the website I said yes, he replied saying well what does that tell you? Instead of just saying yes that's correct or something nicer. Then he hung up on me!
Response from the owner - a month ago
No, we do not rent cars to anyone under the minimum age stated on the website, and if you call thinking that you're entitled to an exception or that our rental policies should not apply to you, you will be disappointed.

This is really good news for X-mas, for all our customers. When the majors raise their car rental rates, we get better utilization, as more people look for affordable rentacar alternatives. And better rental fleet utilization means we can continue to offer the same fair, low car rental rates for Maui visitors and residents. You asked for it, you got it - or something like that.
Over the weekend of Dec. 19 to Dec. 21, Hertz Global Holdings Inc. announced that it increased U.S. retail prices for all Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty car rentals reserved for pick-up on or after Jan. 1, 2015. This price increase was driven by fleet depreciation increases.

Caller: It says on your website that you require a driver license to rent a car.
Superfrank: Yes sir, that's correct.
Caller: Well I don't really have a driver license. Can I still rent a car anyway?
Superfrank: [long pause]
Caller: Hello?

Be advised that driving on Maui is a full-on contact sport. This car from our rental fleet, carrying four occupants, was creamed at an intersection, by a truck that ran a red light. I have lost count of the accidents and fender-benders my customers have been in - it is a nearly weekly occurrence. But this is the most serious by far, with all four being transported straight to the hospital. It is pure luck there were no fatalities. If you come to Maui, and plan to drive a rental car, please have the best insurance money can buy, because chances are high that you will need it. According to insurance company data, Hawaii has the worst drivers of all the US, with the island of Maui being the worst of all the others.

Continuing with the theme of reptiles and rental cars.... Gecko lizards are everywhere on Maui... yes, even on rental cars.

Here's the annual compilation of the top ten most stolen vehicles for this year, with the number of thefts:

    1. Honda Accord (53,995)
    2. Honda Civic (45,001)
    3. Chevrolet Silverado (27,809)
    4. Ford F-150 (26,494)
    5. Toyota Camry (14,420)
    6. Dodge full-size pickup (11,347)
    7. Dodge Caravan (10,911)
    8. Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee (9,272)
    9. Toyota Corolla (9,010)
    20. Nissan Altima (8,892)

I don't know why anyone bothers stealing an economy car or a work truck. If it were me, I would be stealing Ferraris, and Lamborghinis.
Honda's Accord and Civic continue to top the list of most stolen vehicles in the U.S., even as auto thefts have fallen significantly from their peak in the early 1990s following the wider adoption of engine immobolizers.

Car rental rates on Maui are seasonal, and they're also affected by year-to-year factors. This year they are peaking at about $900 for the week of Christmas. Last year's top car rental rate on Maui, at Christmas time, was almost $100 more, over $1,000. We keep track of rates day-to-day and year-to-year, because, hey, renting cars on Maui is our business.

Customer calls and states he can no longer get into his car. On the scene, it is found that his car keys have been cut clean in half - not broken in lock, not bent and broken, cut clean. Customer states he does not know how such a thing could have happened. Yah, right.

Always check your rental car for unexpected passengers, stowaways, invasive species.

The announcement of Herr von Manke's promotion to Marketing Director went out on the newswire, and it is getting some notice. Here's what a customer wrote in.

"Frank - Keep it positive. Most people will not understand your sarcasm. Don't say, " which means he knows absolutely nothing about cars." or " to limit the damage from his monkey-wrenching". It's OK to bull-shit a little, as long as it has a positive spin. Having a certified automotive engineer from Daimler-Benz on your staff should be a good selling point. How many car rental companies or even car dealerships can say that?"

Good points, except that we are talking about a stuffed animal, not a real person. Ok?
