This is the place to go for a good deal. Frank hooked it up with a corolla. It was in perfect working condition and had a great rate. Frank is awesome. He shuttled me to the airport after dropping my car off. He's also pretty funny and has some good information on the island. Treat his cars with respect, people! You're paying it forward when you do so, more than just helping his business. These cars allow you to inexpensively blend in like a local. I will be renting from Frank everytime I'm on the island from here on out.

My partner and I came to Maui in February 2016 for a two-month working vacation. We needed a dependable, safe car that didn't break the bank. That's how I found Frank's Friendly Cars. When I called, I found it refreshing to speak to the owner of the company directly. Frank is awesome. He's organized, dependable and friendly. He spent time answering my questions and even suggested some activities to do while on island. He went above and beyond, which is rare nowadays. Thank you, Frank!

Friends turned me on to Frank's Friendly Car Rental. Best deal in Maui. I needed a vehicle for hauling windsurfing gear and Frank provided a Pontiac Vibe with roof rack. Great mileage, clean and reliable. Plenty of room for sails, mast, boom, etc. and the wife could still sit in the passenger seat. Best part was the pick up and drop off. The car was parked in the general lot across the street from the terminal. Just walked over and drove away. Far better than shuttling to the rental car facility. Actually, the best, best part was the pricing. On top of everything, I left my Garmin in the car. Frank personally mailed it to me at no charge. Just incredible customer service. Thanks Frank!

Called to learn about car availability for the beginning of September and after discussion about cars I did not rent a car from Franks but he gave me great advice and how to rent for the best price. Highly recommend his business James B.

Not very friendly or helpful, I said I had a 6 year old and he started to complain how my kid is going to throw up and make a mess in the car. Wouldn't give me prices on the "beach cars" and wanted to know how much we all weighed, like we were going to break his cars from being obese. I went with a competitor and loved it.

Frank is the Best!! I've been traveling back and forth from the island for awhile now. Everytime I've gone back to franks. For me its about people and working with people who's heart is for people. Frank embodies the Aloha Spirit. He has gone above and beyond every time , making sure my car needs are taken care of while delivering quality reliable vehicles. The only time I ever had a problem (which was due to me leaving the lights on :) my bad) he was right there to swap out and deliver my a new vehicle. This last time I had paid up front for a months rental, however had to cut my stay short by two weeks due to a death in the family. Without even hesitating or having to ask he let me know that he would be refunding me the time that was unused. I wasn't expecting this. This is just another example of why I choose to do business with Franks car rental again and again. Thank you Frank... I 100% endorse you and your business and will recommend you to all I know visiting maui. Aloha!!

People suspect that these positive reviews are fake. Come on, tell me, how does someone make up stuff like this? Shannon, thank you for the nice review, it was nice to see you again this year, and come back again soon.

Our last trip to Maui, we decided to give Frank’s Friendly car rental a try. Best decision we could have possibly made! We wondered what the cars would be like and found them to be very clean and reliable. Frank went out of his way to be sure we got the size car we needed to be sure my 89 year old mother-in-law would be comfortable. Frank treated us better than some of the big rental car companies have in the past. The car was waiting for us at the airport when we came in late at night and Frank drove us to the airport after we returned the car. On the way to the airport we were discussing an item packed in our baggage that we were not sure would be allowed on the aircraft. Frank told us not to worry about it, said if we couldn’t take it onboard to just call him and he would pick it up and ship it to us. Frank is such great guy. More than just saving money, renting from Frank was an awesome experience. We wouldn’t consider renting from anywhere else in the future.

I just noticed that a Norwegian driver license expires on the date of the holder's 100th birthday. Optimism?

“Uber, the world’s largest taxi company, owns no vehicles. Facebook, the world’s most popular media owner, creates no content. Alibaba, the most valuable retailer, has no inventory. And Airbnb, the world’s largest accommodation provider, owns no real estate. Something interesting is happening.”

Our biggest competitor on Maui owns no vehicles of its own either. It's a website that pretends to be a real business, and just offers online bookings with discounts on major rentacar-owned vehicles.

Something to consider when renting a car: Do you want to rent from a real, locally-owned business? Or would you rather just get a discount an a major company rental?

Car rental rates on Maui are seasonal, and they're also affected by year-to-year factors. This year they are peaking at about $900 for the week of Christmas. Last year's top car rental rate on Maui, at Christmas time, was almost $100 more, over $1,000. We keep track of rates day-to-day and year-to-year, because, hey, renting cars on Maui is our business.

Customer calls and states he can no longer get into his car. On the scene, it is found that his car keys have been cut clean in half - not broken in lock, not bent and broken, cut clean. Customer states he does not know how such a thing could have happened. Yah, right.

Always check your rental car for unexpected passengers, stowaways, invasive species.

A few of Frank's Friendly Cars enjoying a well-deserved slow season break. If you were a rental car on Maui, you would be eager for a little stay-cation from time to time too.

This is really good news for X-mas, for all our customers. When the majors raise their car rental rates, we get better utilization, as more people look for affordable rentacar alternatives. And better rental fleet utilization means we can continue to offer the same fair, low car rental rates for Maui visitors and residents. You asked for it, you got it - or something like that.
Over the weekend of Dec. 19 to Dec. 21, Hertz Global Holdings Inc. announced that it increased U.S. retail prices for all Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty car rentals reserved for pick-up on or after Jan. 1, 2015. This price increase was driven by fleet depreciation increases.

Caller: It says on your website that you require a driver license to rent a car.
Superfrank: Yes sir, that's correct.
Caller: Well I don't really have a driver license. Can I still rent a car anyway?
Superfrank: [long pause]
Caller: Hello?

Be advised that driving on Maui is a full-on contact sport. This car from our rental fleet, carrying four occupants, was creamed at an intersection, by a truck that ran a red light. I have lost count of the accidents and fender-benders my customers have been in - it is a nearly weekly occurrence. But this is the most serious by far, with all four being transported straight to the hospital. It is pure luck there were no fatalities. If you come to Maui, and plan to drive a rental car, please have the best insurance money can buy, because chances are high that you will need it. According to insurance company data, Hawaii has the worst drivers of all the US, with the island of Maui being the worst of all the others.

Continuing with the theme of reptiles and rental cars.... Gecko lizards are everywhere on Maui... yes, even on rental cars.
