Watch so you don't Slip!
I recently sold one of my clients the " Eternity Manhattan Collection".
The Manhattan Collection is an original, sophisticated, and versatile laminate flooring with a moisture resistant wax edge and high quality materials  making it one of our most durable lines. It comes with a 50 year limited residential warranty.  She had 3 Jack Russell Terriers.  They move like lightning.  The flooring has a vinyl top layer and is not going to scratch.  I received a call about 2 months after the install and she ask me if there was anything that she could do about how slippy it was.  I really never thought about it....but I have laminate flooring in my own home with an older Lab and he does have trouble getting up from the floor.  I just figure that was one of the bi-products of having a durable, wood looking floor.  She seemed very concerned so I did so homework and found that there is a product out there that you apply with a roller.  You can have the finish with either a gloss or a mat.  I've never used the product and would appreciate any feed back in the future.

It's a shame that there are so many Great Manufacturers out there but they just can't get there products if front of the public's eye.

The Do's and Don't of purchasing your new carpet.  Buyer's first thoughts are "What Color Should I Choose".   Color is probably the most important part but don't forget, there are 3 basis materials used in the manufacturing of carpets....Nylon, Olefin and Polyester.  Each has it's on positive and negative behaviors.  Lets talk about Polyester.

Shaw Polyester is a soft material and when dyed, the color penetrates the total fibers. Today's Polyester carpets are known as Triextra.  If you were to spill some bleach on your Polyester Carpeting, the only way to restore the color is to remove the damaged area with a new donor piece. They are soft and come in any color you want, but Polyester Fibers tend to distort in the traffic lanes after some time. Depending on your living conditions, carpeting should be cleaned at least yearly to maintain it's full life.  The bonus in having your carpeting cleaned yearly, not only help's detour distortion, but since the fibers are heat set, they tend to reset to their original position. Any company that uses a Soil Extraction machine with a hot water rinse is your best bet on your new Shaw Carpet.

Shaw Nylon carpeting is going to be your best bet for all around wear and tear, and once again you'll have any color you can imagine. Shaw Nylon carpets just wears better than Polyester, all because Nylon is more durable. The feel of nylon carpeting is a little rougher on the elbows, but restoration of dirty traffic lanes are more probable. The dye on a Nylon fiber is only on the surface, kind of like when you peel a radish. The red color is on the outside, but inside it's white.  A Nylon fiber can be dye, so if a bleach accident were to happen, you have a chance to restore the damage with a Professional Carpet Dyer. Make sure to have a Soil Extraction company clean your Shaw Flooring on a yearly basis.

Olefin carpeting is made of polypropylene, which is a by product of recycled plastic bottles but also is construction with a petroleum base.  This Shaw Carpet is usually referred to as Berber.  This product is bullet proof except for the seams and it tends to attract soil easier than any of the others.  You'll find this carpeting needs to be clean more often with a Soil Extraction Company but you could spill bleach or red juice on it and it typically rinses right out.  You'll be limited to the colors and the feel is rough.  A highly used Family Room would be a choice for this style Shaw Carpeting.
