I knew all the answers, but I still failed my Oracle certification test!
Recently I received the following question from one of my readers about their results on an Oracle certification exam: "There was not a single question on the exam that I did not know, but I still got only 54 percent. How did this happen?" I spend a lot of ...

Free Oracle Practice Quizzes Available at GoCertify
I have provided quizzes to GoCertify for their Oracle Practice Quiz page that correspond to each of the six exams for which Oracle Certification Practice tests currently exist. At five questions apiece, they are certainly short... but again, free.  Free is ...

Well that really bites. Inside my latest CertMag article is a great picture of the Grim Reaper.  However, the photo that shows up with the link is just a wastebasket. sigh

I think that the Oracle Certification Program needs to start actively working on ways to make brain dump providers less viable.

And the program should have cheerleaders and offer beer discounts. But mostly cheerleaders.

Passing certification exams is certainly better than failing them... but how meaningful is it in the real world?

I have way too many things going on the past few weeks.  I missed the roll out of my article this month at CertMag about the new 1Z0-006 Oracle Foundations exam.

GoCertify asked me to write a general intro to the Oracle certification program, who might be interested, and why to choose Oracle over other certification authorities.  This is the result.
Where's the best place to jump in when contemplating a career as an Oracle certified professional?

Is it 'Good Enough' to earn the Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate credential?
I was browsing the Oracle Certification group on LinkedIn this evening, and a post caught my eye.  The (slightly paraphrased) question was: " Is it enough to earn the Associate-level PL/SQL certification or should you go on to earn the Professional-level ce...

+Matthew Morris Thanks for enlightening as I didn't realize that collections would be on the "Advanced" exam, as I assumed that it would be in the Associate exam!  I've been studying that now.  No, what I was referring to are these topics that I've never come across in any of my work experience.

Using Advanced Interface Methods
Execute external C programs from PL/SQL
  Execute Java programs from PL/SQL

Implementing Fine-Grained Access Control for VPD
Explain the process of fine-grained access control
Implement and test fine-grained access control

Manipulating Large Objects
Create and manage LOB data types
  Use the DBMS_LOB PL/SQL package
  Use of temporary LOBs

Administering SecureFile LOBs
  Describe SecureFile LOB features
Enable SecureFile LOB deduplication, compression, and encryption
Migrate BasicFile LOBs to the SecureFile LOB format

Analyzing PL/SQL Code
  Run reports on source code
  Determine identifier types and usages
Use DBMS_METADATA to retrieve object definitions

I always tune my PL/SQL and (I used DBMS_PROFILE) when writing my code.  And avoiding SQL injections is always something to worry about so I'm aware of that.  Anyway just thought I'd comment on the blog article which definitely made me think.  But in the end I do want to learn more and that's really what it's all about.

Thanks,
GJ
