What would have been funnier is if they had shown Princess Bride as the inflight movie.

OK. The kids are in bed and it is time for a night cap. Tonight it is a Baltic Porter from the fine folks at Duck-Rabbit Craft Brewery. It is dark chocolate from start to finish. Really well done and delicious.

Sadly, you can see below that their foil-background labels makes it hard for hacks like me to take a picture. Perhaps I will take enough of these to warrant a little investment into a better camera system and better lighting than the lamp beside my computer.

Also....what the hell....Duck-Rabbit Craft Brewery isn't on G+ so I can tag them... +Robert Owen or +Brad H able to talk to the right marketing peeps to remedy that?

+James Karg I was looking for canned beers for Friday night when I stumbled across this....

I didn't pick it up when I was there and am now regretting it. Might have to make a trip back to Beer Run today.

That is the best beer they make... and one of my favorite porters. That brewery ONLY cans. You will see a lot of breweries doing that in the coming months/years. It is cheaper, they can do it faster, and the beer typically tastes better!

+Dogfish Head Craft Brewery's 90-Minute Imperial IPA

So, in getting warmed up for tonight's hangout, I am having a much-talked-about beer that I haven't ever had before. Volumes have been written in review of this beer before me, but the thing that I think of most is, balanced. The hops are loaded, but better balanced than I was anticipating.

The 9% ABV comes across a little hot to me, but to be fair, this was dusty on the shelf of the bottle shop and then I have had it on my shelf for two months. That is a long time for a hoppy IPA to shelve.

That would be totally fantastic Mathew, if you sent some brews for review. If you visit Youtube and search "Real Ale Guide American Craft Beer Review" you will have a complete list of all the American beer I have reviewed as to not double up. If you email me at realaleguide@googlemail.com I will send you me address. Thank you I feel honored :-)

So, I have been a fan of +Simon Martin's reviews (under the page +Real Ale / Craft Beer) for a while now. I was flipping around YouTube when I found this gem. If you don't love this beer going into the review, you will be wanting to trade your kids for a bottle by the end.

Also, I will now be adopting "stone the crows" as my go-to saying for all moments of surprise, excitement, and exasperation.

Also, if you are in this community, and love beer, you neeeeeed to subscribe to this guys YouTube channel. Brilliant. 100% brilliant.

Mathew, thank you very much for the kind words. People like yourself make me want to rush into the kitchen, grab a bottle+opener+glass, sling the t-shirt on and review that instant. Trouble is its 7.30am in the morning :-)

Cheers to you
Simon

Dug a Pumking from Southern Tier Brewing out of the back of the fridge. My wife said the bottle was scaring the other vegetables.

Now, to hangout or to video game whilst drinking it....

+Matthew Miller Agree 100% with your comment. They nailed the aroma, but the taste was a bit of let down for me.

+Marcus Penn If I can find some on tap next fall I'll give it another shot.

Great selection of craft beers. You can make your own six packs. Some of the singles are cold too. Also, they have a nifty collection of local and regional crafts and foodstuffs. Definitely worth a visit when you are strolling downtown Staunton.

Top notch pizza, GREAT beer selection menu, and regular live music for no cover. The owners, John and Cheryl, are always in and around welcoming customers and making sure the dining experience is satisfactory. My wife and I like to get the Nags Header pizza and a few drinks. Definitely one of the local places that visitors need to stop in at and locals need to frequent.

The inventory is great, but you can't overstate the value of the staff. Each employee knows the inventory from top to bottom and will recommend things to suit your needs if asked. The passion they have for toys that stimulate children's minds is unmatched. They will wrap any purchase. Can you beat that?? There is a mechanical horse, Sandy, for the kids to ride! If you are lucky enough to be there when Susan starts reading a story to the kids, do yourself a favor and get comfortable.
