Here sharing bad jokes, cool bits of news I spot often to do with science, technology and space. Sometimes a bit of politics thrown in too.

I spent some time this morning waterproofing some "new" shelter gear for our holiday to Bushmoot next month. In the foreground you can see a Soviet Plash-palatka (more on that later because it's of interest) and in the background are the two halves of an ex BW flecktarn tent aka "Dackelgarage". Both treated with my usual 50/50 mix of Boiled Linseed Oil and White Spirit and left to dry (for days to come!)
Any way, back to the Plash-palatka, out of curiosity I have been doing some research online looking at it's different uses and the prescribed methods of pitching/folding etc. While reading up I found a reenactor's source which mentions the differences between the post war models and ones from WWII. It would appear during the war the corners were fitted with sewn leather grommets and wooden toggles up the edges. Where as the post war model didn't have to be so expedient and had aluminium buttons and brass grommets. If this is correct then the Plash-palatka in the image below dates from WWII or very shortly there after as the buttons mentioned began appearing on other Soviet Bloc shelters from 1947 onward so far as I am aware.
If it really is 70 years old it's done well as it's in unissued condition so it must have been in storage since the days of Stalin, which would explain the smell it had when I got it!

A little piece of the past has been resurrected here.
I picked up this from an antiques centre on the bank holiday for the princely sum of £13.50. After a little inspection and some googling I picked up a new 6V battery and ordered some LEDs to replace the original incandescent lamps. The LEDs arrived today and now a little piece of the 70s gets to live anew.

And that's sustainable how? Where are we going to house them, how is the infrastructure going to cope?
No, the corporations "need" the influx of people to be high to keep the labour markets stocked with fresh drones so they can keep wages low.

Tried starting a new game as I haven't played in ages. I've no idea what mod caused this but, the cart is flying all over bouncing off of everything. It made my girlfriend feel sick to watch it!
