I was at the +Brandon Sanderson
signing at +Forbidden Planet
yesterday. It was a great evening - the only thing I would say though is that there were lots of people there, so if you're heading to a signing get there nice and early!
The best bit was after the signing though. Brandon's publicist had booked a room in a nearby pub (the Ape and Bird). The room was quite full, and Brandon came in and sat down, chatted with the fans, had lots of pictures taken and answered all sorts of interesting questions. Throughout, he was polite and friendly - he displayed endless patience for the taking of pictures and seemed really keen to speak to everyone and make sure noone was left out.
Once he'd had some food (between answering questions and posing for pictures), we sat down to play Magic. Conspiracy is great fun, and I will definitely be getting some cards. The guy I was sat next to managed to pull a Canal Dredger along with a Cogwork Grinder from the first booster, so wound up with a 30/30 Grinder. I drafted green and black, and was fairly happy with the deck.
Incidentally, the cards we were playing with were provided for free - we got to keep them afterwards. I didn't catch if they were from Wizards of the Coast or from Forbidden Planet - but whoever it was, thank you! The prizes were also all provided by Wizards of the Coast - as detailed on Brandon Sanderson's blog (see link).
Due to having to get the last train home, I didn't have a great deal of time - so I was lucky enough to be the first to play against Brandon 1 on 1. My deck did OK - I got out a scary 8/6 Twisted Abomination with double strike, but had very little luck with other creatures. Brandon had a great defender deck, and the combination of Vent Sentinel and two nasty flyers was enough to finish me off (I killed the sentinel and one flyer - couldn't quite get the last in time).
As I lost, I got to pick a non-rare card from the folder, so now have a signed foil Selvala's charge (I had two in my deck, and two agendas targetting it - never drew one though) which looks awesome in my collection!
I had to run to get my train after playing, so didn't get to play a multiplayer game. I felt a little bad about just playing one game against Brandon and then running, but due to delays on the Victoria line, I still nearly missed my last train home.
I had a fantastic evening, and hope to get the chance to do it again soon!
