The "podium girls" are an aspect of professional cycling that has always bothered me, most recently in the Tour de France. I'd like to see the practice discontinued and more media coverage of women's events. While we're at it, let's equalize the UCI rules and race prizes for men and women.
Words by Zoë Leverant, Intro by Anna Maria Diaz-Balart This past Sunday thousands of women joined forces to ride in solidarity for the Rapha Women's 100, many of us followed that watching La Course with equal enthusiasm (and burritos!) Unfortunately, the most powerful images of women and the sport of cycling from this past weekend are going to be of Chris Froome and podium girls. Here at PDF we felt the need to address this issue. Legs of Amsterdam

I'll never be a millionaire... But I enjoy what I do, I enjoy my work. I enjoy my life.

In my opinion, there is no greater wealth.

Ride all the Miles

Today I rode my bike 100 miles to kick off the Strava Tour de France challenge: https://www.strava.com/challenges/letour

As always I had the incredible fortune to have Jessica supporting me on my ride. While waiting for me at one of our checkpoints, Jessica saw a cyclist ride by with a website address displayed: http://www.rideallthemiles.com/

This turned out to be Nate Gray who is on a nationwide journey by bike to raise money for Urban Blazers!
http://www.rideallthemiles.com/urban-blazers-how-you-can-make-a-difference/

Nate is riding 4500+ miles across the country to raise money for the under-resourced youth of Philadelphia. The combination of cycling and positive community fundraising is something I can relate to and support wholeheartedly. Kudos to Nate!
The Route -  This is a rough route across the United States.  I aim to be in all of these places at one point or another along my ride; however, I am not following a strict route or timeline.  I plan on spending time in more places but am leaving the ride flexible to allow for the maximum amount of fun and spontaneity!  As the trip progresses I will update the list and provide more details as to where I am and where I'm riding.    ...

Tour de France Challenge Completed!

+Strava  Challenge description: 1,680 km (1,043.9 miles): That’s an average of 73 km (45.36 miles) a day for more than three straight weeks, which is far from easy. Hey, neither is the Tour – the Challenge for the 2015 edition will pay homage to the race’s incredible, relentless difficulty. The Tour competitors will race a massive 3,360km over the course of 23 days. Your Challenge is to complete half of this distance, 1,680km, during the same period.

I rode 1,818 km (1,129.65 miles) in 23 days for the Strava Tour de France Challenge. Out of 73,663 participating riders world-wide, I came in 843rd based on total distance biked in 23 days.

During this challenge I met other riders and had great conversations, noticed the regulars on my routes, helped another rider with mechanical issues, set some personal records, rode a century every weekend in July,  and have even more respect for the far larger challenge of the Tour de France. They go twice as far much faster and with an unbelievable amount of climbing.

I wasn't sure I would be able to complete this challenge when I started, but I sure am glad I dared to think I might be able to do something I hadn't ever done before.

Martyn Ashton is an amazing trials rider who was paralyzed from the waist down in an accident while riding in September 2013. Before the accident he made two mind-blowing stunt videos performing tricks on road bikes that became wildly popular titled Road Bike Party 1 and 2.

This video is Martyn's return to bicycles. His friends made him a custom mountain bike so that he could once again feel the freedom and joy of trail riding. Seeing him ride again is incredibly moving for me. I know what it means to love cycling to your core and I can't imagine losing it. To regain such an exquisite experience is a feeling I can't fathom, but I was tearing up watching this video.

Courage Classic

I am riding in the 24th Annual Courage Classic. The Courage Classic Bicycle Tour was created as a fundraising ride to support the Rotary Endowment for the Intervention and Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect. This endowment will ensure that the children in our communities and their families will never be turned away from the help they might need in the case of sexual or physical abuse.

It's 173 miles in three days over three mountain passes!
