Resharing to bookmark for later. I might have a use for this.

tl;dr: Facebook moved to FlatBuffers in its Android app.The results:
* Reducing story load time from disk cache from 35ms to 4ms (per story)
* Transient memory allocations are reduced by 75 percent,
* Cold start time is improved by 10-15 percent.
* Storage size reduced by 15 percent.

cc +Colt McAnlis
In last six months, we have transitioned most of Facebook on Android to use FlatBuffers as the storage format.

I find this hilarious because I was just the other day pointing out how absolutely astonishingly fast facebook is compared to G+. (Compare them sometime, on desktop, with high packet loss / high latency / low bandwidth. Facebook loads in seconds; G+ never does.) I have plenty of bad things to say about Facebook, but my god do they care about performance.

Good. Abortion is legal here in Canada -- women should have access to the best possible options for it.
Health Canada has approved the drug RU-486, more commonly known as the abortion pill.

"cave"... You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

The singularity is here.
The Chicago rapper made a virtual appearance at a music festival outside of Chicago, but the authorities shut it down.

I haven't read the article, yet, but, given recent events, I suspect that "I don't like his music" might be sufficient justification for just about anything depending on the identities behind "I" and "his", +Joel Webber.  :-/

I didn't think I'd enjoy this movie as much as I did.

After switch back to FF from Chrome this was literally the only thing I missed.

(I do still do a lot of webdev in Chrome, but general browsing is all FF)
Sometimes when you have several tabs open, and one of them starts to make some noise, you may wonder where the noise is coming from.  Other times, you may want to quickly mute a tab without figurin...

Fantastic, though brief look at the 90s tech boom and bust.

Photographer Doug Menuez chronicled the giants of Silicon Valley during the late '80s and '90s.

And we caught the tail end... At Merak Projects. I remember you working on your massively parallel job scheduler just around the time that we were all discovering what Google was ;).

Shows that the people who support the confederate flag can be even more offensive than the flag itself. (Not like there was any doubt, though.)

Galaxy Quest was so much fun -- we've actually made it a tradition to watch it while taking down the XMas tree each year.  While we still procrastinate, at least we enjoy ourselves while bringing it down now. :-)
