Story
Tagline
Professional geek (software engineer), father, runner, craft beer / homebrew enthusiast.
Introduction
I've been a Java developer since graduating RIT in 2004. My areas of expertise are in Java, XML, Java web (JSP and some JSF). My areas of interest are JS userscripts, browser extensions (Chrome / FF), bookmarklets, Groovy, and Grails.

Becoming a parent has completely reshaped my world-view. Nothing could have prepared me for how deep a change this would be. I also forgot how much fun being a kid truly is!

I ran my first 5K in 2010 and have been participating in local area races (as far as a half marathon) ever since. My favorite time of day to run is early morning, especially during a full moon!

I like a good beer. I've recently taken the step into homebrewing and enjoy the limitless possibilities that are now open to me! It is a lot of fun to create a brew I can enjoy and share with friends.

Type of Appeal: Rejected Edit
Portal Title: Raptor
Location/Link: https://www.ingress.com/intel?ll=43.165965,-77.589104&z=19&pll=43.16585,-77.5887)

Ready for #PortalAppealReview 20 to 2

The Raptor mural has been painted over with a new Grizzly Bear mural, looks like the same artist. You can see many of the same building features in both pictures and with a close eye you can see that the murals overlap.

This is critical in supporting other, pending edits I have to this portal to bring it up to date with the current mural.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We have taken another look, and added the new photo to the Portal. The title edit submission is still in the queue, and you should hear back with a decision in due time. Thanks for your patience, Agent.

And what started all of this. My userscript, which I had natively installed in Chrome, was disabled this morning. The thought process went something like this:

"Ok, I get why they're doing this. It's inconvenient for me but if it helps protect less savvy users I'll deal with it. Let's see what I'll need to do to add it to the Chrome Web Store (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/developer/dashboard). Oh, you want money so I can share my freely developed, freely distributed userscript? No thanks."

I decided I'd rather attempt to see if my script will work fine via TamperMonkey (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/tampermonkey/dhdgffkkebhmkfjojejmpbldmpobfkfo?hl=en) instead. I'd test it out but Feedly is down.

Somewhat related to my post about userscripts (due to the nature of my userscript) Feedly is facing a DDoS attack right now. :-(

#feedly   #ddos
Feedly reports that it is suffering from a denial-of-service attack that could impact users' ability to catch up with the latest updates from their favourite websites.

Yeah, I was sort of thinking updating passwords while servers were still vulnerable and everyone knew how to attack them was kind of a Bad Idea...

From Reddit:

TL;DR: Only update your passwords once the service has fixed the vulnerability on their server has deployed a new SSL certificate.
The severity of the Heartbleed bug means that rushing to change passwords could backfire

From the opposite direction. I'm in one of the windows of the building to the left.

Gonna try this out. I haven't been happy with 3rd party #darktheme   implementations in #eclipse . Most of them required too much additional configuration. Hopefully this works well.
When Eclipse 3.0 shipped in 2004 it brought a new look to the workbench. Now, 10 years later, an entirely new Dark Theme is launching. Eclipse Luna will ship in less than a week and to help mark the occasion, I'm counting down the Top 10 Eclipse Luna features that I'm really excited about.

Meant to make this one public.

I didn't realize this happened. I was able to get to it on port 8080 but I've decided to migrate my one userscript over to GreasyFork.org: https://greasyfork.org/scripts/2369-feedly-hide-read-items-when-done

#userscripts   #browser   #greasyfork
Userscripts.org has been down for more than three days as of today. In case you did not know, it is a popular directory for so-called userscripts which you can install in web browsers such as Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome to add, change or remove functionality from websites. Even though its quality has deteriorated in …
