Think through your food choices, don't simply trust "food" because it's in the store. You're smarter than that.

Your government hard at work, making it illegal to collect rainwater. No, this is not a joke, they're really doing it.

In case you're wondering what we use as a natural mosquito repellent that works great, even against our swarms, check out our recipe in the link below.

Now I just need to settle on a great, natural whole yard spray. I'll let you know when I find one that works. Has anyone tried Mosquito Barrier (the garlic stuff)?

This is a GREAT way to preserve your garden bounty this year!
Learning how to build a solar dehydrator is easier than you may think. It's a fun project that will equip you with an inexpensive solution for drying food.

Great burgers and fries. 5 stars comes with using local, grass-fed beef. If you don't mind CAFO meet, this place is about as good as it gets for bar food. Their fries, are the best in town!!

UPDATE 8/27/2014: Changed review from 3 stars to 4. ***Went back for breakfast takeout--loved it. Ordered the Tina's bacon breakfast sandwich and the biscuits and gravy, both very delicious. The bartender who took my order was very friendly and made me a great Bloody Mary while I waited. Price was spot on for what I received and I will be back.*** ORIGINAL Review: I really wanted to love this place, but I didn't. The good: our waiter was very nice, helpful, and concerned. The beer, wine, and food selection is great. Love that they support some local businesses. The music was very peaceful and appropriate (soft jazz). The bad: it took 7 minutes to be acknowledged upon arrival. After finally being seated the wait to receive our drinks and have our order taken was not appropriate for a downtown lunchtime place, it was too long. When I received my French Dip it had the worst meat to bread ratio I have ever been served (though my waiter promptly took care of it, it never should have left the kitchen), it had 2 tiny slices on a bulky baguette. I ran out of au jus half way through because there was so much bread to soak it up (I had to ask a manager walking by to get more, he seemed annoyed). When the au jus arrived it burned my tongue, so I reached for my fork to get ice out of my glass, but the fork had a big booger-like chunk on it. Altogether, it was decent, but not worthy of 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Gary does great work at great prices. He only performs work on brakes and mufflers but when I asked him about an auto mechanic who performs all types of work he quickly pointed me to another solid mechanic with great prices. Solid guy, highly recommended.

If this is the best fish/fish fry in Lansing, we're in trouble. We ordered 3 different fried fish dinners along with fries, tater tots, and crab cakes. If you're the person who enjoys food straight from Sysco (all their sides) then you'll love this joint. It's also in a bad neighborhood. All in all, I'll never go back and never recommend to others--look elsewhere for good fried fish (along with everything else).

Amazing pizza and service. Locally source as much as possible and regionally source the rest. Menu is seasonal of course, taking advantage of whatever the local farmers are growing. Highly recommend the local pepperoni and fermented peppers!

From the minute we arrived hungry, until leaving fat and happy, this place rocked our world. I'm confident to say it was the best restaurant meal we've eaten in years. If you're into local, sustainable, seasonal food, with a chef-inspired menu, you will love FIG. The servers are well trained and passionate about the mission of the establishment, the drinks were creative and unique (try the house Negroni), and the food was prepared with care and ardor. For our main course we chose the grouper and snapper dishes with a shared side of roasted okra and peppers. We finished with the sticky sorghum cake with pecan ice cream - wow - I couldn't have just one bite, and I'm not a dessert guy. Again, from start to finish this place impressed. We highly recommend it.
