Great day at the course with Zach and his mom. Can't wait to get to the rest of these! I used my Einstein strobe at full power here, camera right with a beauty dish for maximum output to make the sky that dark and saturated blue. Shot with my D800, f20, 1/250 sec ISO 200. #golf   #seniorportraits

Grayson Allen | 2014 Powerade Slam Dunk Champion
Last week I had the honor of covering the 2014 McDonalds All American Games. It was a long week with late hours and LOTS of work, but it was well worth it. For some reason it didn't really feel like work. I didn't have time to post much, but I hope to now. Here is my image of Grayson's winning dunk at JamFest. I guess you could say I had the best seat in the house :-)

This dunk was amazing for a number of reasons. One, because both Grayson AND Jahlil Okafor (who he is jumping over) are both going to Duke next year. Not only that, you will notice Grayson is wearing a Jason Williams Duke jersey. Jason was an All American at Duke, but he also happened to be at JamFest! Needless to say, it was a pretty awesome moment. Just look at the anticipation on the crowd's faces.... It was unreal. #Duke   #McDAAG   #bluedevils   #Basketball

Brock Ervin, 5X State Champ | Union Co. Wrestling
One of my favorites from my shoot with Brock. Lighting setup was an +F.J. Westcott #XXLRapidBox camera right and a strobe with a reflector camera left behind the subject. It was an honor to work with such a decorated athlete. #wrestling

Athlon just sent this spread over with another one of my Russ Smith photos so I thought I'd share. Matt (the Art Director at Athlon) always makes my photos look great. Thanks, buddy! Good luck to Russ and the Cards in the Tournament! #marchmadness   #l1c4

Aaron Armstrong | Class of 2015, PTHS Baseball
I've taken a couple weeks off from social networking (more or less), but I figured it's time to get back at it. I thought it would be a great time to post another one of my 2015 senior ambassador's photos. We got lucky with the clouds when we took Aaron's photos. They were perfect for baseball and football! I don't have any shots of catchers in my portfolio so this will be a great addition. You guys know I love compositing and Photoshop work, but this one didn't really need much. #seniorportraits   #baseball

Introduction
Hi, my name is Matt and I take portraits of athletes. I love sports… I always have. Unfortunately I wasn't ever very good at them. One thing I was good at, however, was art. So, I went to college at Western Kentucky University and majored in studio art, with an emphasis in graphic design. When I got out I got a job as a graphic designer. I did that for 7 years, all in the sports industry. I started dating my wife while working at the University of Kentucky Athletics department, and after a year of driving 4 hours every weekend back home to see her I decided to quit and move back home (Paducah, KY). Pretty quickly after I made this harsh decision I picked up photography. Because of my design background it wasn't that big of a transition. Naturally, I gravitated towards sports. I've tried just about every other kind of photography along the way, but this is where my heart is… Sports photography. I love it and I can't imagine doing anything else. I love taking pictures and helping people, so if whether you are in need of sports photos or photography advice don't hesitate to give me a call or email.
Bragging rights
I was published in Graphic Design USA Magazine’s July/August 2010 Inhouse Design Awards Annual for some of my work at the University of Kentucky. I have also received various other awards over my career, including two consecutive COSIDA Awards for Nation's Best Swimming & Diving Media Guide Cover and the Nation's Best Postseason Guide Cover for my 2009 Liberty Bowl Guide. More recently I had all 3 of my pieces submitted make the gallery showing at the 2012 Google+ Photographer's Conference (only 24 were chosen), and I won the "People's Choice Award" at the Keynote on May 22nd, 2012.
