I have been laughing at the sensationalization of media article titles for years. Here may be one of the most dazzling renditions to date.

"The crazy, real-life story of how the CEO of electric-car maker Tesla dazzled, seduced, squeezed, bluffed, manipulated, and prodded his way to epic state incentives to build a massive battery plant in the Nevada desert."

I would like to learn basic animation, to have the ability to make motion line art and basic colour cartoons. It would be the best way to express some of my ideas, in little weekend projects. Say you wanted to develop these skills in your free time. Do we have the tools now that can make it as easy as learning to write? – or am I greatly underestimating the difficulty of creating animation?

I'm surprised there isn't a major company that offers clothing rental on the scale of Blockbuster, Empire, or the bowling alleys.

You could go in and ask for a historical period or theme and they would dress you in the actual clothing style worn by the parish class 200 years ago for example. Or pick a popular cult title like any of the biggest movies or books and they would have a large and always changing selection.

I guess because it would require major contributions of talent from the designers who currently work in fashion and the film industry. Not to mention a population adventurous enough to dress up for fun on the odd occasion.

What record labels and media conglomerates fail to appreciate when they take down videos is that hundreds of people may have shared those videos already, exposing a wider audience to the works with personal introductions. Takedown notices are a brutish move against community, as shared content vanishes from social networks, leaving copyright infringement notices to look at; and insulting to the public, as people feel corralled by the dominant powers deciding our future according to commercial interests; and furthermore a bewildering business move, as every share and copy is an unsolicited promotion of the artists and culture that the entertainment industries depend on.

Anyway I guess what YouTube did wrong was design the user metrics in such a way that people would be encouraged to post copied works as their own in order to get views and subscribers, or make personal music videos for songs they love in order to share their tastes and appreciation of original works with others. Tumblr, Twitter, G+ and others had the right idea with "reblog", but even that fails when linked content gets pulled forcibly off the web.

I think the top tier auto-correct software is the best application of machine learning so far. but the auto-correct on my friend's phone predicts the next word only when you've typed all the letters except the last one. not so smart if you have one more button to press either way.

I so badly wish there were more out-speaking against this kind of thing, that the opinionated public were more organized around broadcasting voices and giving ground for a proper competition among perspectives. Anyone ready to speak would be given a chance, but there would be no interrupting the airtime of any speaker. Heckling is a reprehensible practise. It is intellectually unpardonable.

+Change.org should allow a debate between opposite perspectives, give a way for users to promote and explore the best arguments on both sides, and facilitate discussions rather than give arbitrary subsets of "the people" a sledgehammer to smash whatever offends them. But the Internet age is an expression of the people who make, use, and control it, so I guess discussions will be relegated to places like YouTube and Twitter for a long time coming.

"Alaska, where personal marijuana use has been de facto legalized for nearly 40 years, is completely average on a variety of economic and demographic indicators."

Let this be a warning to you all. xD

Actually the homogenizing effect of liberal laws is more likely to blame, or to thank that the Alaskan population is in a balanced state by American standards.

Good article.
